What's wrong with the cover 2?

This is getting sickening. 5 rush attempts and a rookie QB put up 400+ in passing. Is it lack of QB pressure? It seems the only time we stopped AZ was when Leinart was pressured.

Is it time to scrap the cover 2? Or should we call it the cover who.

It would suck to throw for over 400 yds and still lose.....just like Mexico rushing for over 150 yds and losing.

The problem with the way the cover 2 is working for the Vikes is that they are not effectively blitzing and putting pressure on the QB.
The QBs have all day to pass the ball, there is no secondary in the league that can cover the receivers when even a marginal QB has so much time to find his receivers.

I disagree. The Cover 2 is supposed to generate pressure from the Defensive Line. Blitzes should not be used as much. I think there are two main problems:

1. The Defensive Line is underacheiving when is comes to a pass rush.
2. The Corners give receivers way too much cushion.

Give any QB time and they will pick apart your zone.

Especially a team with talented WR's.

I agree with your disagreement.
I meant the same thing as you in #1 and #2 is a good point.
Blitzing occasionally and hitting the WRs in the 5 yd zone sure wouldn't hurt.

I think we'll actually have a better game next week. IMO the combo of Leinart, Fitzgerald, Boldin and Johnson are better than Grossman, Berrian, and Muhammed.

We'll see how many times the Bears rush the ball next week. Most teams have just given up but I think the squad will be working all week on containing the pass. Sharper needs to step up big time against the bears.

We haven't been getting beat deep, so the Cover '2' part of it is doing its job. Our safeties over the top are doing a great job, it's just the middle area that we're getting whooped on. They're picking us apart because they're getting 10-15 yards at a pop a lot of times.

That's all due to the reasons posted above by Acumen and V-unit.

keep in mind also, leinart threw 50 times against us.
anytime a qb throws 50 attempts, his numbers will be bigger than you'd like.

i put some numbers together and found out waht the yds/attempt is, and the vikings rank 8th in the league for that.
they also only have 59% completion agains them which puts them at 14th in the league.

these stats don't include the cards game because nfl.com isn't updated yet.
