  1. Metrodome New Grass/Turf ?

Ok, from what I saw on Sunday, it looks like the Vikings now have a synthetic grass and not the astroturf of old, yes? If so, when playing road games on grass, this should now no longer be such a change to what they're used to. Am I correct in thinking that the new surface is very close to what playing on real grass is like?
Several here have mentioned that the Vikings traditionally have problems on grass (and the road in general), but it looked to me like they should be getting used to it based on their new home "grass". :colors:

I don't really know if it has to do with the grass, or the elements involved with playing on the grass. Cause if you have grass, you're also gonna have rain, snow, and especially wind, cause more than likely you're gonna be in an open stadium. I think those are more of a factor to us than just the grass.
Sell crazy someplace else...we're all stocked up here.

Well the astroturf is very simular to grass and you got to remember that we also practice on grass as well. I think some of these grass stats are deceiving as we just dont perform well on the road. The grass doesnt determine it, the home stadium and its crowd does.

I hate the way the turf looks on TV. Gives off a nasty sheen that almost looks distorted at certain times. It feels nice though.

Yeah, that glare/sheen plays havoc with mpeg encoding for DVD recording

Actually though, I did like the way the old 'V' logo was painted at midfield as well as the 'Minnesota Vikings' writing in the end zones.

I'm sure the players will like it too.
Kind of ironic that Irvin and Kleinsasser both got hurt although I don't think the surface had anything to do with either incident.

The stuff is really soft compared to the old turf. Oregon State has it in their indoor facility if you're ever in Corvallis, you can compare the stuff the Beavs play on compared to the practice field.

Heh, judging from the Beavers struggles this season, it does not seem to be helping them. Of course, speaking of them and turf. they played last week on Boise State's Smurf-Turfâ„¢ ... have you ever seen that? It's BLUE! :colors:

    Metrodome New Grass/Turf ?

Yeah they actually showed the first 2 games out here in Minneapolis on TV. (I grew up in Corvallis and Portland and am a Beaver alum) I can't believe how many many media love DA, and think he's a great prospect. He is way to careless with the ball IMO. He looks great every year against the teams like Sac State, but once he gets in against PAC 10 D's he's what, 1 TD per 4 INT's?!?! lol

Small world ... yeah, I haven't been following the Beavers since Erickson's departure. Not impressed much although they almost pulled the LSU game out. Speaking of alma maters, I went to Sac State!
