Here's an opposing view. Yes it was a crappy performance by Webb, but do we cut Toby Gerhardt after fumbling 3 times against SF?? Holding onto the ball is an integral part of being a running back. Lambeau Field is not an easy place to play, and this was a playoff atmosphere. After 11 consecutive starts this year, Ponder struggled in Lambeau. This was the first game time pass Webb attempted all year. It seems like you're willing to cut Ponder some slack, yet pretty quick to cut the cord on Webb. Sure Ponder had a good game against the Packers week 17, but maybe Webb does too in the cozy confines of the metrodome. If you're gonna compare games, then compare both games in Lambeau. This was just one game under really extreme circumstances.

As for the preseason, Webb was just fine. In the first game against SF, Ponder raved about his offensive line. He claimed it was the best protection he ever had. Ponder would hand the ball off go Toby, and Toby would rumble along for about 20 yards. Ponder would step back to pass, and pitch the ball to Percy behind the line of scrimmage, and Percy would rip off 30 yards. Wow!!! Awesome pass Ponder!! When Webb came in, the RB was stuffed at the line of scrimmage. Webb had no protection. It was a jailbreak. He was running for his life, and most of those linemen are gone. The third preseason game, Webb started out 6-6, and it would have been 7-7 if a perfectly placed ball wasn't dropped. Webb's preseason was just fine.
The Vikings may still bring in some competition, but GB was only one game under really adverse conditions, not absolute irrefutable proof that Webb can't succeed in the system.
