A pretty sad deal.
He wasn't exactly going to make or break (yes, pun intended) our team but still I was pulling for him after the injury.
I wonder who they'll find to fill the roster spot.......hmmm.....maybe a guy named Brent?

I was hoping he could come back fro the injury as well, but to be honest, that one looked like a career ender. :(

I just re-watched Florio's link on youtube of the injury.
Damn, that makes my butt pucker!

That really was a nasty one no doubt.. But I thought he would come back

I know Marrdro was very skeptical of him even coming back

Bummer.
Before the injury, I thought Chuck was really coming on as the 3rd corner.

+1

I thought we would have a very solid corner with him for years to come

I feel really bad for the guy.. I hope he can come back sometime and somewhere and be a good player again

Florio is wrong, BTW.
The Vikings roster is currently at 81, after Gordon's cut.
Three more will need to be cut to make room for Favre, Harvin and Loadholt.

http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=3071

The Vikings now have 81 players on their roster and can be at 80 for the start of training camp. That means space is going to have to be made for first-round receiver Percy Harvin and second-round offensive tackle Phil Loadholt, who have yet to sign. The Vikings also will need to create room for Brett Favre if he decides to play for the team.

Good catch!
Does anybody think that Harvin's deal won't be done by the end of the week?
I think it will.

Damn that sucks, I was looking for him to come back from his injury and light those opposing offenses up like he was early last season. I wish him luck wherever lifetakes him next.

Problem is,......he was becoming a "Favorite Player" for me.
Been a damn long time since I have "Liked" a player like I did ole Chuck. Alas, the nature of the beast (game).
Truth be told, I find it very interesting the lattitude they (the staff/Ownership Group) is giving Keneche.

Anyway, fair winds and following seas Chuck.
Hope you can work through this and make it on another team or possibly crack the roster in a year or two.

Got a soft spot for undrafted FA's.
Especially on the defensive side of the ball, but damn if he wasn't putting it all together.

I remember his family coming on PP.O when he first came to the Vikes.
He was an underdog that worked hard and made the team.
He wasn't the fastest guy out there. But he was smart and played well.
I'm sorry to hear this news. I wish him the best in life.

Sorry to hear about Chuck, he was coming along nicely.
Guess that puts Paymah as the primary nickel back now?

Or Asher Allen, Or Benny Sapp (you know, the guy who was there before)

maybe McCauley gets one last shot.

Maybe he can enter the coaching ranks, seems like an overachiever, hard worker type of person.

I hope to hell its not Sapp, we didn't have much choice when he was put in last year after Gordon's injury.
I haven't seen McCauley play any at nickel.
Seems to be used exclusively as a corner backup to AW or Ced.
Asher may win the spot, but as a rookie I would be surprised to see him get the spot out of the gates.

If Paymah can't beat out Sapp, then cut him now and find somebody else.

I was never under the impression Paymah was brought in to be a solid contributor.
More of a #4 dime guy or something.

Just went back and looked into him a bit more.
You're right, he was a one year signing, brought into to compete with Sapp for playing time in nickel/dime packages and special teams work.
Doesn't give me a real warm fuzzy about our DB depth.
This will be a position to watch through training camp to see if someone can step up.

Sad to see Gordon leave. I thought he was coming along nicely as the Nickel back. I was very happy with how Sapp stepped in after Gordon's injury. I think the Nickel is Sapp's position to lose. McCauley had a decsent rookie season but was injured most of training camp last year making it hard for him to compete for Nickel. I think he has more potential than most people think.

The silver lining is that we have solid depth at DB, so it is not the worst thing that could have happened.

Wow.
I completely forgot about good ol' Chuck.
That's HORRIBLE!
Of course, that injury HAD to happen against GB..

Watching that video again, and looking at AP's face at the end..
It wouldn't shock me to find out that AP promised Gordon a 'W'.
We all know how much intensity Adrian played with against GB that game..

Tough break so to say, But it is football and unfortunately injuries like this happen. All this means is that it creates a opportunity for someone else to step up. We have Sapp, McCauley, Paymah and Allen. I am confident that one of them will have something to prove. I honestly think that McCauley will step up as i think he has the most to prove on the team otherwise it will be Allen. Who knows there could also be another Gordon on the team just waiting for a chance to prove himself.

Bad deal.

He was a good guy and even signed my son's football at training camp and stayed long enough to say hi to the kids, which not many other players did. I knew from watching the injury it was a long shot for him to ever get back. I just hope he does well with whatever he decides to do from now on.

Unlike other recent Vikings players who got cut but have received fanfare for making 1 or 2 plays (cough Dovante Edwards cough Greg Blue cough) I will be rooting for this guy to get back in the game somehow. If not for his injury he would undoubtedly be on this team in 2009.

Chuck was doing a damn good job in the nickle, on PR and KR coverage as well.
This guy was a baller not a one play wonder like the guys you just mentioned.

It's a sad ending to a great underdog story. If every player had his heart and determination to make the team, and be a contributer we'd have some serious blue collar players. My heart goes out to him, and hopefully he can rehab that awful injury and maybe get another chance. All the best Charle's.

He does to.

Comeon, give the dude a break.
He is still basically a year behind his peer group, played without his MLB last season and is all over the field.

He is a excellent fit for our scheme that will only get better over the next 2 years or so.

;D

You wanted a CB cause you still don't, as with Greenway, like Griff.

??? Ask Zeus how much I like Cedric. We do his celebration all the time.

LOL, well, atleast I got another "Chad" shot in on ya.

;)

Chad just needs to learn how to defend the Pass.

LOL, he does fine.
I have this feeling you will never like him though.

;)

He does not do fine.

He does to.

Comeon, give the dude a break.
He is still basically a year behind his peer group, played without his MLB last season and is all over the field.

He is a excellent fit for our scheme that will only get better over the next 2 years or so.

Go watch the film. The proof is in the pudding. He needs help in the pass defense department.

In the cover 2, everyone needs help.

He has the speed quickness and range, there's no reason he can't develop into a good pass defender.
I don't know what kind of D he played in Iowa, but I bet he really keyed in on the run, rather than playing a cover 2.
It may take a little bit to get better at zone coverage (some of the better corners still can't play zone) but it will come.

How long has Greenway been in the league?
Thought so.

I am too drunk too fully understand the argument, but I will say this: If you are questioning the LBs' ability to cover the TE, you are a moron.

Our scheme clearly callas for the LBs to take care of the zones they cover. Cover 2 is always beat by good TEs, and I am fine with that.
