Gus- ranked 20th in the league and didn't play the first 2 games
AD- Second in the league in rushing
Berrian- 9th in the league in rec. and leads the league in YPC
Shank- second in the league in TD's for TE's.
9 TD's in the last 2 games.

Hmmmmm. Could it be????????????

Our O has certainly improved but seems like we still make a lot of mistakes and are turnover prone this year. Nice that Minnesota finally has some decent fantasy players that I can pick up.

Probably a bit to late for some of us to over look how long it took to get kicking.

Lets see what he, and the rest of the coaching staff, do this week in preps for GB. ::)

yeah, this game is crucial!!... and even though our defense played lights out.. i'm still a little concerned about our defense... gave up 244 yards passing in the 2nd half to a backup!!... not GOOD!!...

plus, us going very conservative in the 2nd half on offense is a concern... first half was amazing... Now that's what I call playcalling.. i think the 2nd half shows the philosophy we and chilly have.. and i don't like it.. get a lead and hold on for dear life... that's the most concerning thing i can think of.... we should be trying to nail them to the tracks and bury them....

If not for a few texans mistakes, that game ends a LOT different...

Hopefully the offense continues its upward trend.
If they limit their mistakes they can be a very good offense.

Yep, that will be the real test.

Was yesterday a sign of what is to come or was it the one game a year that every team has where they play above themselves and have a way above average performance across the board.

The next few weeks will determine which is the case.

Very nice, but I do have 2 comments.....

a.
Take away the first drive of the second half and the D played lights out.
What the hell happened at half time?
Anyone could see that they were bound to make a shift at QB.
They should have at least talked about what changes would need to happen.

Again, Leslie hasn't shown me anything worth giving him the head job my friends.

b.
I am not so sure that the offensive play calling changed that much.

Seemed like they did go into more of a clock killing mentality but they still encorporated the pass in with the running game at a pretty decent rate which kept the D on thier heels a bit.

The offense did change to the extent that they were taking shots into the end zone as a first move as opposed to running it in the red zone like they had been doing earlier in the season. That really loosened things up for Peterson as the game wore on.

Guess what 21 passes and 32 runs is?

A 60/40 RUN/PASS RATIO.

BOOOOOOYAH!

The KAO will work if we can continue to play clean football.

that's exactly what i was saying..... the texans had like 3 turnovers in the red zone.. 2 coming in the second half... to me that's kind of scary considering we won by 7....

Like i said, i swear we can't play against back up QB's...

Offense was good... but IMO, in the second half played it too close to the vest... we threw the ball in the 2nd half out of necessity instead of sticking with the first half game plan until atleast the 4th quarter... I think a better team makes it more of a nail bitter or even wins that game....

it's not how yu start but how you finish...

This next game will tell our season totally. Chicago plays the unbeaten Titans. Loss for Chicago. If the Vikes can win over GB we will have a tie for 1st. Then Chicago and GB face off against each other in two weeks. This HAS to be our chance to make a move. We lose, write off the season IMHO!

Seems to me, the offensive playcalling and execution have improved.
I absolutely loved that playaction fake for 55 yards on the first play!
;D
Berrian did have two tips
:o
but overall, the past 4 weeks he's been pretty impressive.
Shank has had some nice grabs.
Very nice to have Rice back with a TD!
Allison has had a couple called back due to penalty...I think he's bound to break one loose soon.
Not bad.
Maybe there is hope...although I'm still far from sold on Childress.
Thats why, IMHO, he's got the rest of the year to see what he's got.
And, thanks to the defense, we could have had 35 points on offense, but honorable move on the knee too.

The defense held the No.4 offense (yds/game) in the NFL out of the endzone for most of the game.
Remember, Once again, there were points scored while our defense wasn't on the field.
In addition to two guys of similar skills at QB, they have the playmakers (A.Johnson, Slaton, Walter, Daniels) to keep their offense kicking with the backup.
That Madieu grab was a really nice play!
Allen seems to be getting better each week...more pressure even if not the stats.
And Winfield just keeps showing up big!!
Sharper, got burnt at least once going for the pick, and then, missed the easy pick, making sure he got the hit instead.
At least it was still a stop.
Also, coincidence?
Our defense let up that long, smooth drive the same quarter our offense was struggling (no points in third)...?

You are correct, we have yet to lose when we have a balance attack that the D (60) can't cheat up on the run cause the pass (40) is effective enough to keep them guessing.

A couple more offensive outings like that and maybe we can dictate to the D on a consistent basis enough to take what we want.

How about i wanna see it for the entire game not just the first half.... going conservative waaay too early in the second half can cause your team to loose rhythm and not make plays down the stretch...

i.e.
that 3rd down drop that shank had... we catch that and we close it out.. that drop gave them another chance to tie it up!

V4L
11-03-2008, 02:48 PM
Agreed

Put your foot on the pedel for atleast 3 quarters.. If you get a big enough lead THEN sit on it in the 4th sometime

And that Shank drop was a horrible horrible pass.. One of the few bad ones thrown that day by Gus

???

Just because we used a playaction pass on the first play, doesn't mean our gameplan was pass to open up the run.

In fact, we ran much more than we passed, but we passed effectively. The gameplan was more like, pass because they expect us to run. We are so good on the ground that we don't even have to establish it early to keep the D honest.

Not to take any credit from the passing day, but the gameplan was just as vanilla as it always has been. Berrian and Frerotte are making a great positive impact on this offense.

Brad Childress' proclamation of having a kick-something offense has not come to fruition, but there's no denying the Vikings have become more explosive lately.

40 runs, 29 passes.

58/42 run pass ratio. 361 total yards.

Eliminate the TOs and this offense has some serious kick.
