Jared Allen sent a text message Saturday night to Tony Gonzalez, his good friend and old teammate from the Kansas City Chiefs. The word is, Gonzalez wants to be traded and the Chiefs are open to making that happen.

Just something to start a discussion, anyone think it's a good idea???
Sorry Im not sure how to make it fancy like all the other article links.

Until there is a change in the coaching staff I don't want to think about any roster moves.

I think Tony has made it pretty clear that he wants to go to a sure contender, that basically rules out both of our teams doesn't it?

I like it.
Gonzalez is the type of guy a coach dreams about.
Srong leader, good character, and backs everything up with consistently good play.
There have only been a handful of TE's ever in league history that actually garner attention in a game.
Gonzalez is one of them.
He draws coverage eerytime he lines up and he does his job well.
He has one fo the ebst sets of hands in teh league and he has 3-4 years in him still.
I would say anything other than a 1st would be good.
Plus maybe we could trade Shiancoe and say a 3rd or 4th and make some cap room for him.
Mills will be a stud TE in his time, learning from Gonzalez would only make himi better.
You dont have to coach a guy like this you jsut have to let him play.

Definitely interesting to think about... teams would have to respect the pass a LOT more.

I mean, the guy is arguably (and even that's arguable) the best pass-catching TE ever.

Both the Packers and Vikings are tied for first place in their divisions, so, no, that doesn't rule them out.

Anyone who has seen the Vikings play this year just laughed at that comment.

The refs are the only reason we're a "contender"... sorry dude.

Giants verse either of us? .. hmmm that is a tough choice.

Okay.. don't like NYC.. how about the Bills?

Wait.. don't want to play in Toronto.. how about the Tampa Bay Bucs?

I am not saying it isn't a possibility but, the Vikes are passing game challenged and the Packers D looks very average at best.. Neither speak Superbowl.

IMO.

that would have to be the case as he won't be getting much offensive coaching here

Or, Childress will try to fit him into his "scheme"... then Gonzales' production goes way down and everyone complains that we overpaid for him... however, due to bad penalties and poor reffing... the Vikes continue to win and have yet another 8-8 year, saving Childress' job for yet ANOTHER year of mediocrity...

I mean... call me crazy, but that sounds about right.

Tony Gonzalez for a 3rd Round or less...most definitely.
1st or second, ah, no way.
Gonzo is an Owner's dream, a coaches dream, and a quarterback's security blanket.
No brainer.
If I'm GM or Owner, I'm telling Childress, not asking.

Only if Shiancoe could be worked into the trade... carrying his salary wouldn't be smart.

Childress, Bevell, Jackson and Shiancoe for Herm, Gailey, Gonzales and Derrick Johnson

If I'm going to dream I may as well dream big

What makes you think that the owner and GM (Yes Singer I know we don't have one) needs to get the HC's permission to make that move.

I would think it would be completely the opposite based on how NFL front offices are structured/work.

Bigger issue for the GM would be whether or not he fits in the CAP scheme and if he fits the scheme the coaches are running.

Of course Tony fits the latter but I wonder about the CAP.
How much, if any do we have for signing players this year and what is his expected number for the out years.

Sounds about right ... except if the Vikes go 8-8, Childress is out.

I heard on Mike&Mike this morning that the only team that might make a move for Gonzo is Philly.
