Inside Slant

Gus Frerotte is returning to the Vikings for a second stint and will provide the team with what it feels is a reliable backup quarterback. Just as important is the fact the veteran will be counted on to help assist in the development of young starter Tarvaris Jackson......

Just as important is the fact the veteran will be counted on to help assist in the development of young starter Tarvaris Jackson.

Frerotte, who signed a two-year, $3.75 million deal, said he’s not only comfortable with the latter role but is looking forward to it.

That is really good, unlike BJ who still thought that he could compete for the starting job.

WR Bobby Wade has been rehabbing his left knee in Arizona after undergoing arthroscopic surgery. Wade injured the knee in October and played the rest of the season despite being hobbled.
I didn't know that his injury was that bad.
Way to tough it out B-wade.
;D

Right end Erasmus James, meanwhile, continues to rehab after having surgery to repair a torn ACL in December. It’s uncertain when he will be ready to return.

This is getting real old, real quick.
>:(

It also has been revealed that nose tackle Pat Williams and cornerback Antoine Winfield had undisclosed surgical procedures performed.

I thought Winny might need a touch up but this is news on Phat Pat.
Anyone have an idea?

Frerotte made three starts last season in place of the injured Bulger and threw seven touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

In 3 games he had just as many interceptions as TJ but 2 less TDs. Ouch!

If he sees some playing time, i don't think he'll be such a risk-taker

No, he had 12 interceptions in 8 games. He started 3, but played in 8.

Still, it's too many interceptions.

The Rams had ten different OLines by week 10 last year due to injuries.
Bulger couldn't do anything with that offense either, and even Jackson wasn't effective.
I don't think we should worry too much about Gus' numbers in STL last season!
He is a decent game manager (better than a Dilfer) who has shown he can get the job done with a decent team around him.

Obviously, we all would have liked to see a DE and maybe some OL depth added in FA, but there wasn't much there, and the top three DEs all got snatched up in a hurry for Mega BUCKS.

I look at James this way...he's our wild card.
If he's too injured to play, he can go on the PUP to begin the year.
If he's healthy, he could be a really nice surprise addition to our rotation...cuz folks aren't really thinking about him anymore.

All in All, one hell of a nice FA offseason for the Vikes!
When was the last time we picked up 9 guys in FA?
