For a running back, averaging six yards per carry for a season is something like hitting .400. Jim Brown did it once. Barry Sanders did it once. O.J. Simpson did it once. And every single other player who gets mentioned in a discussion of the greatest running backs ever failed to do it at all...

So it's actually a story that originated from this blog. I thought some of you might want to take a look at that.

Nice read my friend.
Did you catch the tidbit on Norwood.
::)

Footnote: Jerious Norwood has averaged 6.4 over his first two seasons but only has 168 attempts. Might be high time to give the young man the ball.

I couldn't agree more with that footnote. Don't you all remember the first game of the season. The only player that were really scary on the Atlanta team were Norwood, that kept making big gains on our run D

Still the Falcons were reluctant to give him the ball. He ended up with 5 carries for 33 yards, combined with 2 catches for 24 yards. On the other hand they gave it to Dunn 22 times, in which he got 55 yards, and 4 catches for 26 yards.

He's no PJ, but if I were Atlanta, I'd probably put the ball a lot more in his hands given my alternatives on the offensive side of the ball.

I think they don't give him the ball like that because he fumbles and get's hurt easily.. a la Me-Mo... and may not be all that good of blocker, but with that said, i'd still give him the rock.. hey what do they have to loose!!!

AD always has the 2 on his jersey nearly scraped off.

I wonder if it's from him rubbing the ball against his chest when he runs. If so that's pretty intense.

I always figured it was from the ground up tire fibers that comprise the field turf.

I've thought that too, but I'm pretty sure the numbers are like that even before the first snap of the game. I know a lot of the guys (at least in college, i'm assuming the NFL too) will either use tape or something else to hold their jersey tight to their shoulder pads making it harder for defensive players to get ahold of them. Maybe it is something like that? Mixture of both? who knows.

That pic is from the San Diego game, so whatever that stuff is, he's got 296 yards worth of it on that jersey. Well, since that jersey was sent to the Hall of Fame, maybe one of us can go there to take a closer look and report back.

I like the football rubbing theory.
Explains why he's got them on both sides and a little heavier on his right side then his left.

The way that man runs I don't doubt that he clutches the ball hard enough to knock a little pig out of it.

Well said, excellent post my friend
;D
(Marrdo moment)

I think i've used pretty much that exact same phrase in a game where he was running down the field and a defender dove on him and AD carried him another 5 yards on his back before he went down

Yeah my dad mentioned once..

Ohh.. watch this play.. It's kinda funny that they think they'll tackle him, they hit him in the backfield.. and.. well watch..

It was the play were oe of the D line had AD dead on for a loss.. he pushes him, and 2 linebackers backward until he gets a 4-5 yard gain..
from a probably -2 loss..

Even my greek gf who knows nothing of american football wants an AP jersey saying.. "Wow.. that is amazing" when she see's his highlights..

Does anybody else sit back and almost shit themselves thinking if this kid can stay healthy, we quite possibly could have the greatest running back ever on our team? I mean he looks like a man running through highschoolers out there. Some of the plays I see him make (breaking kennoy kennedy's ankles for one) just leave me like tingly or something.
