Just look for the two Vikings tents and a big "PurplePride.org" banner. We are right across the train tracks from Gate H at the dome.

Generally speaking, Neumdog/Webby/Shock/Vikeswin will be there in the 6-6:30 range to grab spots.
The rest of the crowd starts to roll in around 9am.
Depending on the SNOW in the forecast for Sat/Sun, that could change for everyone.

Most people roll in between 8 and 10.
Usually a few people, like NeumDog, get there early to get our spot and set up.
I will be getting there around 9:30, since I will be driving in from North Dakota that morning. :)

This should be part of every tailgate thread.

We will be tailgating in Purple Tailgate Lot 1 - in the extreme SOUTH EAST corner or the lot, closest to the Dome, directly across from the LRT station and the Wheel of Fun on the plaza.
Look for the billboard in Purple Tailgate Lot 1 and you'll find us.

The options being weighed are WHEN to leave and WHETHER or not the wife and kids are coming down to the Cities as well.
I prefer that she not drive with the kiddos when the weather is bad.
Worst case scenario, my dad, my buddy, and I will leave Saturday and stay somewhere in the cities while the wife stays home.
She was looking forward to spending the day in the cities with a friend of hers though, so we'll see.

Safety first.

Much ado is being made over the commute being effected by the winter weather.

I for one have another perspective to offer:

After a historic jaunt through the elements, you arrive in a snow-veiled Minneapolis. The holiday lights are up, the tops of the skyscrapers are hidden by low clouds, and there are hundreds of the purple faithful celebrating and preparing in the snow for a divisional game with playoff implications. Many are huddled around grills or fires, but some are braving the weather and throwing the ball around.

Sure sounds like football season in Minnesota to me.

Man i really wish i could go to the game. Seeing i live in Idaho it's kind of long trip lol. But me and my dad came down to watch the Eagles and the Chargers games this year, but i can't get enough....I love going to the games too much i think lol. We have kind of made it a tradition to travel down there and watch a game or two every year....Maybe i'm gonna have to move down there in the future.

I usually park in a city parking structure for $10-15 and walk to the tailgate lot.

A very generous member here paid in advance for an entire year, for 4 tailgating spots, in purple lot # 1.
Webby, or one of the mods is there to accept donations, which eventually will repay the member.

There are no spots left to park in in the lot that we tailgate in.
PPO collectively has 5 spots, but those are used for the tents and the two cars that bring the tailgate supplies in.
Everyone else parks somewhere else and walks to the lot.

Anyone is welcome to tailgate with us, and walking into the lot is free.

Update on me and my buddies making it to tailgating:

The weather forecast in central MN and ND is looking grim.
We are expecting to get a layer of freezing rain and ice followed by six inches of snow on Saturday. :(
We unfortunately have a Saturday commitment that we can't get out of, so the plan right now is to drive to Villard sometime in the afternoon and wait out the weather there.
Hopefully on Sunday we will be able to get on the road by 7:30 or so so we can make tailgating, but don't hold your breath.

We are still definately going to the game, I just don't know for sure if we will get there early enough to make tailgating.

6-10" Of Snow Possible Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin for Saturday.

The storm could leave 6-10 inches of snow across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin. WCCO-TV meteorologist Paul Douglas said some isolated areas could see up to a foot of snow. The heaviest snow is expected to fall just northwest of the Twin Cities.

Sleet and freezing rain are possible in areas south of Red Wing, Minn. and New Ulm, Minn., where snowfall totals could range from 3-6 inches.

The NWS said the snow is expected to be in Saturday morning with
the heaviest snow falling in the Twin Cities Saturday afternoon and evening.

Douglas recommended doing your weekend errands Friday night, early Saturday morning or late Sunday evening.

The NWS also said a period of sleet or freezing rain is expected for south central Minnesota, along the Interstate 90 corridor.

[hr]

Anyone that has the option, leave tonight.

Don't try to press through the storm if you don't have to. Let's make this a safe and fun weekend.

For those of us that will be in town when the snow starts to fly... Whats up for Saturday?

We unfortunately have a Saturday commitment that we can't get out of, so the plan right now is to drive to Villard sometime in the afternoon and wait out the weather there.
Hopefully on Sunday we will be able to get on the road by 7:30 or so so we can make tailgating, but don't hold your breath.

We are still definately going to the game, I just don't know for sure if we will get there early enough to make tailgating.

Your best bet is too leave tonight.

I would love to, but we have a wedding on Saturday in Wahpeton, ND on Saturday.

You might be screwed. It is supposed to snow all day saturday starting at noon and up until sunday morning.

I know.
We aren't going to push it if the weather is looking bad.
But we will be ready to go on Sunday if it lets up and the roads clear up.

Of course, if we can't make it to Minny, my dad, my buddy and I will have to do all those jello shots ourselves...

Don't take this the wrong way, but my first thought after I read that you may not make it was to wonder if you could FedEx overnight the jello shots.

LOL.

For the record, I still intend to do everything I can to make it.
I am just not going to be stupid about it.

Leaving at 7:30am is not "do(ing) everything (you) can to make it."
Leave at FIVE!

=Z=

Shit.
If I leave at five I will be on the road before MNDOT is.
I like the AWD in my Pacifica, but I really think it will do better if the Snow Plows get a chance to hit the roads first. :)

The plows will be out all night long!
They know the Vikings are playing at home on Sunday!

In all honesty - they are saying the heaviest snow is going to be North and West of the TC.
Might be worth your while to get as far south into SD as you can before heading straight east....

Might be more of an ice event in the south. This storm is predicted to be wide spread and hit us in northeast Nebraska with accumulations of snow as well as freezing rain and ice.

Have a safe trip everyone.

Yup, they are predicting freezing rain all along the I-90 corridor.
It isn't looking too promising.
I'll make the decision on Sunday morning.
Maybe it'll be clear skies all day.
After all weathermen aren't exactly known for their accuracy. ;D

Even still I-90 is a bad idea for driving when bad weather threatens. If the wind comes they'll shut it down in a heartbeat and then you'll find yourself stuck in Laverne or Worthington watching the game from your hotel room if your lucky and if your not the plow truck garage. mmmm good times. ;)

wait a minute... i just thought of something.. :(

The past two home games Zeus has given a sermon from the Book of Purple Jesus, and the past two home games we've won.

This week is the RETURN of Purple Jesus (not to be confused with Return of the Jedi or Return of the King, this is far more important).
I'm sure the sermon for that would be extraordinary.
If he's not there to give the sermon.. what will happen!?

Basically what i'm trying to say, is if Zeus' wife goes into labor, she's going to cost us the game

Forecast for tomorrow says: Windy. Snow during the morning will mix with sleet and freezing rain at times during the afternoon. Accumulating 3 to 5 inches.

Tomorrow Night pretty much says the same thing, periods of snow/sleet/freezing rain.

10% chance of precip. on Sunday.

Thats what i found at first glance, idk how accurate it is :P

That's what I've seen too.
It is actually a better forecast than we had earlier in the day.
This means that it may be possible for me to make it in on Sunday.

Our new plan of attack is to wait until Sunday morning to see how the roads are before making the decision.

Hopefully the trek through the snow goes fine. 4 wheel drive, so I should be ok.

Well, I'll see all you fellow tailgaters tomarrow. I'm outa here.

Be careful man it is going to get icey, very dangerous even with 4 wheel drive.

"That's who you always see in the ditch first. People with all-wheel drive can get overconfident," he says.

Don't forget about the not so brilliant types that use their cruise control.
;)

I miss the snow at times.
I always liked the first snowfall of the season.

Just an FYI: Current Temp: 68 degrees at 730PM.

donkey butt
;)

I had to throw that in there.

I wish I was down there. I will be in one month. Was thinking about getting tickets to the Outback Bowl in Tampa.

We will see where the Gators land.

We might try and get tickets to the game if they will be in Orlando.

Well. I just blew 5 inches of snow off my driveway... AGAIN.
Fargo is getting hit worse than we expected.
However, as of right now we are still on for the game.
Keeping my fingers crossed...

Leave early, you're probably going to have a slow drive. Most of your drive is flat land is it not? Any worry or advisories out for blowing & drifting snow?

And by all means, drive safe. Don't jepordize your own safety for the sake of a Vikings game.

Neum and I are getting to the tailgate about 7:00-7:30. We will be there before most if not all of you, DO NOT jeopardize your safety in order to get there early. We can party after the victory if need be. :)

Thanks Z.
If I leave here by 7 (had to snow blow my drive before I leave -AGAIN), plus picking up people in Alex and Villard, I should be at the dome by 11:00 or 11:30.
We'll stop by tailgate on the way in to see if anyone is there still, but that is about all we will have time for.
We'll have to meet afterwards to celebrate the Vikings pounding the Lions!
