Randy Moss should be back Sunday

November 22, 2004
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Randy Moss is expected back on the field this week for the Minnesota Vikings, provided his strained right hamstring doesn't swell.

Coach Mike Tice said Monday a reasonable plan for Moss in Sunday's game against Jacksonville is 25 plays, mostly in three-receiver formations.

Since sustaining the injury Oct. 17 at New Orleans, Moss twice made token appearances without catching a pass and did not dress for the last three games.

He's still tied for third in the NFC with eight touchdown receptions for the Vikings (6-4), who stopped a three-game losing streak by beating Detroit 22-19 on Sunday.

Moss, who has been running routes on the side for the past week, looked good in an intense workout Monday morning to test his strength and endurance. Tice and team trainers want to make sure the leg doesn't swell on Tuesday before allowing him to practice. He'll be listed as doubtful, for now.

``Hopefully as the week progresses we'll be able to fix that and turn it into questionable, probable,' Tice said. ``We'll see.'

Pro Bowl center Matt Birk, who has been playing with intense abdominal pain, might have to sit out a game or two next month to let the injury calm. He's expected to play against the Jaguars, though.

Nat Dorsey, who took over at right tackle when Mike Rosenthal was lost for the season with a foot injury, strained his right shoulder and might have to miss this week.

Yeah, I just don't think that the Vikes have updated it. He will probably be moved to probable for the game. They may list him as doubtful all week and say it will be a game time decision. But unless he has a setback, I think he will be back. After the game at the press conference, Culpepper was talking like Moss was coming back. He was convinced in his words about Moss being healthy.

Tice said they were going to list him as doubtful then see how he feels later in the week then probably listing him as questionable or probable

Man im looking foward to his return. About a month witout seeing moss perform just sucks. :angryfire: Time to come back and burn defenses once again and for our team to start putting up 30 plus points once again.

i miss moss just as much as any viking fan...but im hoping his role is extremely limited this week. I would love just one more week of rest. Hammy injuries are a funny thing. You never know what to expect with them. With 3 more division games coming up and most likely playoffs, i want this guy at his absolute best. What a killer if moss reaggrevates it in a game versus the jags who play some pretty tough, physical defense.
