With the 165th pick of the 2000 draft (the next-to-last pick of the 5th round) the Minnesota Vikings selected Troy Walters, WR, Stanford.

With the 199th pick of the 2000 draft (the 8th-to-last pick of the 6th round) the New England Patriots selected Tom Brady, QB, Michigan.

He could have been the Vikings guy!
Wouldn't you rather have had him than Troy Walters?

Think about it!

He could have been on any team, but yeah that would have been sweet.

The pick was almost PURE LUCK...take a look at the rest of the Putzies' 2000 draft:

2 (15, 46) - Adrian Klemm, Hawaii
3 (14, 76) - J.R. Redmond, Arizona State
4 (33, 127) - Greg Robinson-Randall, Michigan State
5 (12, 141) - Dave Stachelski, Boise State
5 (32, 161) - Jeff Marriott, Missouri
6 (21, 187) - Antwan Harris, Virginia
6 (33, 199) - Tom Brady, Michigan
6 (35, 201) - David Nugent, Purdue
7 (20, 226) - Casey Tisdale, New Mexico
7 (33, 239) - Patrick Pass, Georgia

Other than Pass, does anyone really remember any of these guys doing much for the Putzies...Klemm is now on the Pukers as a backup and he never started much for the Putzies when he was there.
I think that most of the others drafted above Brady washed out.

Got this from Wikopedia......
At least we had Drew Henson on our team.

College career

Brady played college football for and graduated from the University of Michigan. He sat on the bench his first two years as teammate and future NFL quarterback Brian Griese led the Wolverines to a national championship in 1997. When he enrolled at Michigan, Brady was seventh on the depth chart and had an intense struggle to get some playing time. At one point, Brady hired a sports psychologist to help him cope with frustration and anxiety and even considered transferring, frustrated by what seemed like a lack of opportunity.[8] Brady battled for the first string quarterback position with Drew Henson and ultimately started every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons under Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. During his first full year as starter, he set Michigan records for most pass attempts (350) and completions in a season (214).[9] Brady was All-Big Ten both seasons and team captain his senior year. The Wolverines won 20 of 25 games when he started and shared the Big Ten Conference title in 1998. Brady capped that season off with a win over Arkansas in the Citrus Bowl. In the 1999 season, Brady led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns.

Brady was a late bloomer with psychological problems.
How do you call that one right!
LOL only in the 6th round on a whim apparently.
I would say that someone on there staff got something right, but if they were that sure, they would have taken him a lot sooner on the second day of the draft.

What if we would have kept Randy and Culpepper?
JK!

What is up with the "what if" threads today.
I don't mind playing the what if game but I am surprised the what if thread hating committee hasn't come out to slam the over abundance of 2 thread to an oblivion.

Why do you think I posted this stupid-ass question?
I'll post more, if you want, pointing out how the Vikings could have drafted Joe Montana.....

I would rather read and post in a thread like this than have to read another "I think TJ and Chilly should prematurely give up there positions on this team, I am so impatient and my expectations were way too high but I didn't really know it" thread.

LOL!
Both the what if and the disband the Vikings thread are a waste of time.
Have fun ya'll!

Ouch!

Is that traded or cut?

There is a difference.

That's a great "What If?" for Brady - What If Drew Bledsoe hadn't taken that shot from (Bryan Cox, right?) that knocked him outta the game for Brady to step in?
