Rashad Baker, who appeared in only one game with the Vikings this season after being picked up off waivers from Buffalo, has been released by Minnesota. Baker’s only appearance in a Vikings uniform came against his former Bills teammates on Oct. 1. He had been let go by Buffalo during the final round of roster cuts in training camp.

The Vikings did not make an immediate move to fill Baker’s roster spot for Sunday’s game at San Francisco. One potential transaction would have been to activate receiver Jason Carter from the practice squad but he was not believed to be among the players the Vikings took on the trip to San Francisco on Saturday.

That means with receiver Marcus Robinson set to miss a second consecutive game because of a lower-back injury the Vikings likely will go with four receivers Sunday. The group includes Travis Taylor, Troy Williamson, Billy McMullen and Bethel Johnson. Carter was activated for last Monday’s game against New England but did not play. He was then waived and signed back to the practice squad.

Letting go of Baker leaves the Vikings with four safeties. Baker had been listed as the third-string free safety behind Dwight Smith and Will Hunter. Darren Sharper and Greg Blue are listed as the top two strong safeties
