Titans | Volek could be traded
Wed, 30 Aug 2006 20:38:58 -0700

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Tennessee Titans QB Billy Volek could be traded by the team. The Titans are expected to see how much interest there is in Volek.

Yeah this is a guy that we could definately use as a backup.

He definately can help and is much better than McMahon.

Unfortunately, Zygi's cheapness in regard to Johnson's salary has hamstrung this team when trying to pick up a backup QB. You can't very well pay the backup more than the starting QB, and BJ is only making $1.2 mill...less than many backups in the league. That's why Feeley signed up as a definite 3rd string QB in Philly rather than being the #2 in MN, behind the oldest QB in the League. Not exactly a stellar career move, but if we're too cheap to pay him what he's worth, why would he come here.

Zygi really dropped the ball this time.

That was a cheap shot! compared to red macombs wilf spends like daniel snyder! i think ziggy
has spent plenty of money this and last offseason!and im sure that an extension and/or upgrade of brad contract is in the works!

I have to agree with you here Boongish.
BJ should be compensated and it does hurt the team when it comes to getting better backups.
Seeing TJ play makes me optimistic and it eases me a little but just the same he hasn't really taken a real NFL snap yet except fro preseason.
Seeing MM & JO play worries me.
Zygi for the most part has done a good job but BJ's salary should be looked at.
Not that I wanted Feeeley to begin with.
That's as good as scoring an extra TD for the other team.
Watching him when he was with Miami the Dolphins were close in just about every game but lost them late because of an INT the other way.

I agree that BJ's salary needs to be adjusted. He's done an awesome job. I'm comfortable with T-Jak as the backup. From what I saw he looked comfortable and compitant. If there's mula out there to spread around for some players I would look at any solid WR's that could help. How do you feel about our RB situation?

RBs I feel pretty confident with.
Taylor, MeMo, Fason, Echu, and Mathis.
I know none are real accomplished yet but Taylor and MeMo have the experience and have played well.

The areas I'm concerned about it WR and LB.
Del Rio makes good points in the TEs will be used alot in this offense so maybe it won't be an issue.
I just know that Travis Taylor has the dropsies.
T-Will can too.
M-Rob is a good threat in the red zone with other capabilities too.
I like Carter from whatI've seen thus far.
It's just up in the air for me.
I would feel more confident with one proven veteran at WR.

Volek wants a chance to start. That's not happening here (we hope). I say we go out and get Tommy Maddox, or someone else who at least has shown they can be a winner. I like T-Jak, but we don't need to be throwing him in the fire yet.

Please not Tommy Maddox.
I would rather get someone like Testaverde even though he's even older.
It's just going to be real difficult to get anyone decent because of BJs salary.
That's a given.
We may be stuck with what we have.
To be honest I would take JT over McMahon if I judged by the preseason.

Vikes missed their chance at Jeff George... Raiders decided to see if that horse still has legs.... or more like it "the arm". ;)

lol, i cant believe someone just called Wilf cheap.. the guy has spent so much the past two years, we went to having the smallest and cheapest coaching staff in the league to the largest and a decently paid one.

we have picked up more free agents in the past 2 years then all of the mccombs era, sure he has yet to improve johnson's contract, but do any of us really doubt he wont revamp that contract soon enough?

and screw volek - we know we're doomed if johnson goes down period, it wouldnt be worth bringing in another outside QB at this point unless he really knows the offense, even then he wont know the schemes.

face it, this year we have Johnson, Jackson, McMahon.

I say screw bringing in another QB.
I think if Brad
goes down that A.J. Feeley, Volek, or any other sub par QB outthere is not only a waste of time but a waste of cash.
Let Jackson come in and fill the spot of Brad.
Who gives a donkeys tail if he's a rookie? A.J. and Volek play like rookies and they've been in the league long enough and all they've shown is inconsistences which is everyones biggest concern about playing a rookie.
If you ask me throw the kid into the sea and swim with the sharks if you have to.
He'll give us the same chance to win as these other QB's on the market.
Regardless if Brad goes down the season is a wash most likely.
So does it really matter who is the one getting the reps in the game if the chances of us winning are that low anyway?
