View Full Version : Brian Williams out for the opener?

Looper

Not sure if this is old news, maybe I just missed it before. But it looks like Brian Williams will sit out the first game.

According to Tice:
"He practiced hard and he looks alright (physically), but he doesn't seem to have confidence in the knee," head coach Mike Tice said. The Vikings hoped Williams could be the No. 3 cornerback against Dallas, with Ken Irvin taking his place in the starting lineup for a week or two. But Wednesday's setback could mean second-year cornerback Rushen Jones will be pressed into action.

What does this do to our chances Sunday? Or the game plan?

Not alot Kenny is capable of doin the job, but rushen needs to come up big. If they have to i would like to see them sit him out for the Eagles game just to make sure his knee is good (as bad as i hate to say that).

Brian Williams is Pro Bowl bound but he needs to be full strength and that means letting that knee heal. But we will be ok in the secondary.

Hey vikingstw you still want Dom Davis, cuz i dont know who to enculde in the trade if you still want him hit me up.

Hopefully it will be only for one week that hes out, we need him big time fo the philly game. Its kinda of a good thing we let him sit out this one rather then injure it some more and mayb be lost for a very long time. One week shouldnt hurt right?

In the Star Trib today they are saying he will play on Sunday, but that he will only be used in dime packages or maybe nickel. I also heard this on a sports report last night.

Hope he plays, so that he starts to get into game shape because we will need him next week against Philly.

Tice has said this preseason that he will not disclose as much to the media as he has in the past, maybe this is his attempt to put disinformation out there?

I would sooner he was fit and well for the rest of the season than rush him back for the opener.

I read this afternoon that Williams practiced much better today, and is expected to see action at the nickel Sunday. Breathe a sigh of relief, all is well!

Its a good thing Keyshawn, Glenn, Dedric Ward or even Antonio Bryant havent accomplished anything in this league

Your secondary has more a challenge this week than it does next

Outside of TO, there isnt a WR on the Eagles roster that would even make each of our respective rosters

An aging Ken Irvin..a green Rushen Jones and a CB that doesnt have confidence in his knee

No reason for concern of course..this game has already been won

WTF was that, all wackthepack said was he hopes brian williams will play. What was up with bringing up your recievers that made no sense. Meshawn is nothing but mouth, he got his A$$ handed to him in the preseason against Dunta Robinson. Terry Glenn is ok but ageing, Ward is a nobody and Antonio Bryant is the best u guys have. I'm not worried about your recievers.

If i was you i would be worried about how your going to stop moss and then how your going to stop the run. You better get ready cause moss likes kickin your guys asses. I dont think the Cowboys are very good, You guys get all exited becasue the media builds your confidence. You'll see u cant hang with the big dogs after Sunday.

In the paper today, DB Brian Williams had a strong practice on Thursday and Tice said he would be playing on Sunday. He also said that he would be playing dime and possibly the nickel.

Also Marcus Robinson has been doing well and practice and looks like he will be playing for sure on Sunday (famous last words).

Are we all forgetting Antoine Winfield, our best corner anyway? Irvin is decent but not that fast, I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on KeyShawn, and let Winfield cover faster guys like
Bryant or Glenn. Still, I also heard he might see some action. I guess we'll see after the first two series if we really need him.

As far as this week, your receiver scare me alot less than a proven playmaker like OWens. The difference between him and Meshawn is Owens actual produces. Not to mention the disparity in quarterbacks. Donovan is just alittle better than 40 year old testaverde who led the Jets to a nice 0-4 start last season.

What I ment by this is that we will play man on man against your receivers, but against TO we will probably double him and go man on man against the rest of their receivers.

If the Vikes coaching staff does do this then they will need Brian Williams healthy and able to play the whole game.

Was not trying to disparage your receivers, just the way I see it.

I fear Keyshawn far more than I fear TO

When a ball hits Keyshawn in the hands, he catches it. When a ball hits TO in the hands and not the chest first, there's a 90% chance he drops it

I actually feel more confident with Rushen Jones or Rhett Nelson coming in for some playing time in this game. Williams injury has allowed them show their stuff in training camp and also get a little more experience in the preseason. I'm not saying they are shutdown corners by any means but that extra time they have gotten is better than nothing. They've done a pretty good job so far.

-- Onterrio Smith Expected to Run for 100 Yards --
Fri Sep 10, 2004 --from FFMastermind.com

<LI>The Pioneer Press reports Minnesota Vikings RB Onterrio Smith is expected to have a big game against the Cowboys. HC Mike Tice said, "I promise you this guy will get 100 yards this weekend."

Im sure there is no way this will find it's way to our team bulletin board..

My point was..unless Winfield can do the unthinkable and cover 4 WR's, there will be opportunities for our 3 other "no worries" WR's

Its the delivery system we have that make them better...but he's too old and will be target practice in the pocket

Again...I shouldnt even bother because this game has already been won

It doesnt matter if u know whos gonna run on u hes still gonna do it. If its Moe or Smith whats the difference there still gonna run on u. I cant wait till Jimmy starts laying out your linebackers and opening wholes for the running game. U might just be surprised what this guy can do. If u want to game plan against moss i have no problem with that, if u only put 7 guys in the box and two deep safeties we are gonna run all over u.

Jeez I guess I did not know we were playing only 1 corner and no safties, I guess this is a knew formation I never heard of.

seems to me we will be playing 2 corners and 2 safties and 3 linebackers in our normal formation.

Winfield will cover 1 person like he normally does and I feel sorry for your receivers because we have some hard hitting safties and corners.

Please, we can cover your 4 receiver sets and the vikes will make your old QB pay for it. Hope he likes getting blitzed, he will not have time time to find a open receiver, he will start tossing it up for easy picks.

Well if you want to run a 4 receiver set and don't keep a back in to pick up the blitz the Vikes linebackers are fast and will blitz, with nobody to pick them up Vinny will be running for his life.

Yeah Vinny is toast i can just see it K. Williams, C. Hovan, and Udeze colapsing the pocket on him, he gets no more than 200 yards passing.

Oh by the way Brian Williams looked even better today and will contribute. He still has tomarrow to rest the knee he should be able to play nickle at least.

Lots of confidence for a guy coming off a down year and a rookie that hasnt proven a thing, eh?

why would we not be so confident? there is no, and i mean NO reason we should not win this game to think other wise, would be pointless. I expect big things from Uzi(Udeze) you think Hov's changed nope Hov's still the same.(overated in my book) But really I think this gonna be great way to kick off the season vikes vs girls Im ready for this game, but I dont think it will be as easy as everyone thinks. And one more thing ROY's got nothing on MOSS you cant hit what you can't catch.

Del Rio
09-11-2004, 11:42 AM
Ah this is too fun................

I expect the game to be close. I don't have full confidence in our secondary, they have let us get burned too many times. So even with the Winfield aquisition I'm stil crossing my fingers.

You give Vinny too much time he will pick you apart. And the Cowboys have a good reciever core.

The thing is you guys keep crying who we have and who they have, and our front four is going to do amazing things this year I guarantee it. When you get that many big names on a line havoc will insue.

Who cares is one is a rookie? Kearse, ring a bell? Derrik Thomas? 20 sacks his second season???? Most sacks in one game???? Young players can contibute at this position it's not rocket science. Get your contain and break down 3 -5yards deep. Then kill who ever has the ball, don't over persue, and club your arms ,drive your legs, and rip the ball out.

D-line is a natural position for natural athletes. Not too much to remember and technique is amazingly rewarded. Fact is young players have and will make an imediate impact on the D-line.

Hovan will have a good year IMO. They can't block everyone and they will sure want to block Williams. So just by default he will get sacks. His technique on 1-1 is right up there with some of the better DT's.

This Cowboy team is runned by the best Coach in the NFL right now...period. They have good players and a lot of vetrans to teach thier yougins. They will be an awesome team.

Our team has extreeme potential and this game we play Sunday will be important beyond belief. All our opinions are pointless once the ball is in the air so don't hurt yourself trying to shove your Cowpie information down our throats, and same goes for us.

People will get hurt during the game, people will get cramps during the game, people will have a good game and some a bad. Things no one can predict.

This is a big one boys, game one. Against a good team. And our scheduel only gets harder. It's about game time.

i think the beiggest problem with our defense last year was we gave up too many big plays, especially on runs to the outside. I just don't see the Cowboys as having a big play offense.

let them run george for 2.2 ypc, jones is probably for the game, so a couple hits to the ribs if he tries to pick up a blitz or carry the ball and hes TOAST. btw, bellichek is the best coach in the game... period. terry glenn cant run, keyshaun doesnt score touchdowns, just yaps his big mouth, antonio bryant is in parcells doghouse so who knows how much action he will get. and dont get me started on vinny, can throw if he gets time, too many conditions for a winning chance if ya ask me snd

I do know that the Cowboys have a good team and they are coached very well, but can there offense score as many points as our offense i dont think so, as long as we play well on specail teams and dont give up any returns we will be fine. If i was a cowboy fan i would be concerned about that running game they havn't been able to establish and going up against EJ, Claiborne, and that D line i think i would be shiting my Pants. Guys lets not forget that Claiborne is healthy and he is F$%^#$% beast, last year he inked 98 tacles, 3 sacks, and 2 INT's, he played hurt for like 4 games and was out 4 games he's an all pro, he's a play maker, I'm very exited to see him back and healthy, and back in action. I think some people are forgeting about him, hes not injury prone hes put up big numbers, and hes still young at 26.

One of the other resons i'm so confident is becasue this viking team(which there are many of them left) rise to the acation when playing better competition. We can go all the way we just have to learn to win against those oponents who we underestamte. Tice needs to get these guys to understand the importance that this is the NFL and on any given sunday shit can happen.
