Vikings' Williamson will miss mini-camp

Last update: May 10, 2006 – 11:08 AM

Vikings receiver Troy Williamson is recovering from a medical procedure and will miss this weekend's mini-camp, coach Brad Childress said this morning.

Vikings receiver Troy Williamson underwent a medical procedure earlier this week to remove an abscess from his left hip and will not participate in this weekend's mini-camp, coach Brad Childress said this morning.

According to Childress, the infection was in the area of a skin graft Williamson received when he was 10 -- the result of a childhood accident in which Williamson suffered third-degree burns on 17 percent of his body. The area is more susceptible to infection as a result, Childress said.

Williamson, the Vikings' top draft choice in 2005, worked with the first team during the Vikings' first veteran mini-camp last month. Childress said he had no reason to believe Williamson won't be ready for training camp when it opens in late July.

The Vikings' mini-camp runs from Saturday through Monday at Winter Park.

Bummer! At least it's only mini-camp, but it would have been nice to see him out there.

Hopefully the can take care of it, and it is not a recurring problem for him. If it is bad enough that they have to operate on it instead of just taking some antibiotics it is probably serious.

I don't think this will effect his game at all. Just his standing with the coaches...

I hope he shows up to camp even though he can't play, just to set a precident.
