Really, I think that we are going to have an open competition on the O line and at LB. It appears as if we are going to get a ton of guys and say compete for a roster spot or we are sending you home. Bye bye!

Rosenthaul---RT (for now)

Marcus Johnson--RG

Matt Birk--- C (stays healthy)

Steve Hutchinson--- LG

Bryant McKinnie--- LT

Kleinsasser--- TE

Jermain Wiggins-- TE

Kenechi Udeze -- LE

Pat Williams--- DT

Kevin Williams-- DT

Erasmus James--- RE

Chad Greenway--- LOLB

E.J. Henderson--- MLB

Dontarious Thomas--- ROLB (starter right now)

Ben Leber--- ROLB (its a toss up for me, i need to see them play)

Darren Sharper--- SS

Tank Williams--- FS (if he can stay healthy)

Winfield--- LC

Fred Smoot--- RC (if he doesn't show anything then stick in the rookie)

Ryan Longwell--- Kicker (duh)

Chris Kluwe--- Punter (double duh)

Cedric Griffin--- KR (K-Rob is the starter and can't risk him getting hurt)

Cedric Griffin--- PR (maybe Whittaker)

Tarvaris Jackson--- holder (quick roll out speed on fakes)

Tony Richardson--- FB (share time with Kleinsasser)

Notes: Ryan Cook could become the starting right tackle if Rosenthaul
doesn't improve.

Tarvaris could become the backup QB, but for now i see him at
3rd string.

Cedric Griffin is a good, young (duh) player who could take
Smoots spot if he can't improve!!!

With Offords offseason problems, Tank Williams gets the initial
start, but Willie could take it back of Tank doesn't show promise.

I think for a while the RB will be a committee mostly by Moore and
Taylor, both are good and have much promise, Taylor will get the
start.

I know its a lot, but it is just my opinion, I will probably get people wondering about my LB choices but, oh well!!!

PurplePeopleEaters89

ultimately with the ultra left side of the line and Tony Richardson plowing the way, it doesn't make that much of a difference who we have at RB!!! I think the only problem we will have on offense is who should take the #2 WR and what will happen to the right side of the line!!! But that doesn't really matter since we are going to become the new Seahawks, " run left, run left, run left, get tackled for a lost going right, run left, run left, run left, etc.!!!) LOL

I'm hopeing for something along the lines of this.

QB: Brad Johnson
RB: No real #1 back yet we'll wait and see.
FB: Tony Richardson
WR 1: Koren Robinson
WR 2: Travis Taylor
TE 1: Jermaine Wiggins
TE 2: Jim Kleinsasser
LT: Bryant McKinnie
LG: Steve Hutchinson
C: Birk/Cook if birk isn't ready
RG: Goldberg/Cook
RT: Marcus Johnson
RE: Erasmus James
LE: Kenechi Udeze
DT: Pat Williams - Kevin Williams
R-OLB: Chad Greenway
MLB: Napoleon Harris
L-OLB: Ben Leber
CB 1: Antoine Winfield
CB 2: Fred Smoot (Will lose his job to Griffin or Edwards if he isn't carefull)
FS: Darren Sharper
SS: Tank Williams

Personally I think everyone is a bit hard on Napo...Cottrell utilized him horribly last year and hardly played him, Plus he plays alot better at MLB I say he shines in the Cover 2, in this scheme with this coaching staff.

Also...Our defense looks scary on paper lol.

I'm not going to do a prospective starting 11 for offense or defense because it's still open in a number of positions; Linebacker, Guard, Wide Receiver (although that's pretty much a lock now), Tight End.. They're all open to consideration..

Bring on Minicamp!

I would still like to get Setterstrom or Eslinger. Last I checked they are out there still. I think we could afford to get rid of McKinnie next year if we got one of those guys to come in along with Cook and the young guys we got to compete against each other this year.

Yes, I just checked it against the Vikings.com Roster and Newman is not on there anymore. It might be safe to cross reference this roster.

There are a few guys not on my original list, like Bubin (OT) that are on the Vikings.com Roster.

Major changes

The Team has addressed our needs in FA and the Draft so far.

We are adding depth at DB and OL
We are getting competition to find the right LBs to fit our new system.
We have 3 QBs to learn behind BJ, one of them will be able to step it up in the future, got to be one of them that can be as good as a Hasselbeck.
We addressed our RB needs in FA. With a good line, Taylor or Moore can be 1200-1400 yard rushers assuming one becomes the featured back.
We are definitely going to have a good competition for the right side of the O-line.

We'll just have to wait and see at training camp but you would have to say that the lines are looking very, very good. McKinnie, Hutchinson and Birk on the O and James, Pat, Kevin and Udeze on the D.

Don't forget that we added Ray Edwards at DE.

I really think that we are concerned about Udeze's health and long term availability. I know there are a lot of people that don't want to hear about that, but it is true. College injury, and a Pro injury and he hasn't been on the field as much as we would have liked him to be. ????Bust???? What he does this year will probably determine his future. He has to kick some ass this year and stay healthy.

I am not sure about Rosenthal. Hopefully he comes back with a new found enthusiasm for the game, a fresh attitude and the understanding that he better work his butt off. It seems to me that Childress is telling Rosie, Lewienski, Goldberg, and Herrera that "you guys will have to prove yourselves to me or you are gone. Tice might have put up with you guys, but I have brought in guys from the NFC East, that I have seen play more often than you guys and they are just as good or better than you, so show me what you got. BTW, we drafted a versatile OL (Cook) to compete for your job also."

Offensive Line?
Matt Birk - Starter
S. Hutchinson - Starter
B. McKinnie - Starter (I don't think he is untouchable)
M. Johnson (is he really playing at an NFL level?)
M. Rosenthal (is he really playing at an NFL level?)
A. Goldberg (has Starts w/Vikes mainly due to injuries to others)
Jason Whittle(has Starts w/Giants due to injuries to others)
Ryan Cook
A. Herrera (has Starts w/Vikes mainly due to injuries to others)
C. Liwienski (has Starts w/Vikes mainly due to injuries to others)
A. Hicks (has Starts w/Eagles due to injuries to others)
Sean Bubin (from what I could tell, he played one game for Det, that's it)

As far as the LBs, I say Leber plays for what we are paying him. I hope that Napo turns out better in this new system. I think this is a big Question Mark. I don't think the coaching staff has a preset notion (set in stone) of who will be starting. Atleast I hope they are going into this with a totally open mind. It isn't like the news guys are coming in at a Disadvantage and the team vets are coming in with the Advantage, they are all coming in learning a new system. It is a level playing field. Let the best players play.

Artus Hicks it the new starting right guard. Childress said that immediately after the trade. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them try to move Cook to the right tackle. At 6'7 I think he might be a little big to play center (and Birk is starting anyway) especially in the future when our starting quarterback (if Tavaris pans out) is 6'1 and not 6'5 like Brad, but he definately has the size to play tackle. It's also not as big of a deal starting a rookie at RT as it is LT because it's not on Brad's blindside.

RT- Cook? Rosenthal?
RG- Artus Hicks
C- Matt Birk
LG- Hutchinson
LT- McKinnie

Cook has barely played any tackle in his life. I don't think you can make him a starter based on being 6'7". Marcus Johnson started at RT last year for the Vikes. He has to be the favorite to do so this year.

RT - M. Johnson
RG - Hicks
C - Birk
LG - Hutchinson
LT - McKinnie

Backups -
T - Rosenthal
G - Goldberg, Cook
C - Cook

How many linemen do they suit up for a Sunday...8? 9?

If it's 9, you probably put Liwienski in there.

I would tell people that too if I was worried about getting ripped for making the trade and not getting more young blood in the draft.

Maybe he thinks it also might light a fire under the other guys butts to want to come in and knock Hicks block off.

Quaterback:

Starter: Brad Johnson
He is our guy at starting QB, he can adjust to the system and with 7-2 last year, he showed he still got it..

Backups: Tavaris Jackson and Mike McMahon
Tavaris is our draft pick - he will likely be our third string QB, and Mike McMahon will be our 2nd string.

Others: JT O'Sullivan
We will likely go on the practice squad or be cut.

Runningback

Starter: Chester Taylor
He's our guy, especailly after we did not draft a runningback on the first day.

2nd string: Mewelde Moore
He will get some handoffs too, he - as Taylor also cathes well out of the backfield and is also an explovsive runner

Goal-Lineback: Ciatrick Fason
Ciatrick Fason will be a good goal-line back - but then again who wouldnt be behind Tony Richardson and Steve Hucthinson :)

Backup: Adimchobe Echemandue(or something)
In case some one gets hurst - he might get a handoff or too, but i doubt it.. Fason can step in as 2nd string back, and we can use Tony Richardson as Goalline guy in that scenario(much like Allstott)

Fullback

Starter: Tony Richardson
We got on of the best Fb's in the game, nothing to say about this

Backup: Joey Goodspeed - he proberly make the team, but then again - We still have Kleinsasser in the squad and he can also play FB

Tight End:

Starter: Jermaine Wiggins
Nice pass catcher - important to have a good TE in west coast offense. - We have that

Backup: Jimmy Kleinsasser
Also a good player, as a mentioned before - he might get some snaps at FB also

Wide Receiver

#1: Koren Robinson
I belive K-Rob is our guy, he's the best of our WRs

#2: Troy Williamson
Troy gets the number 2 spot, cause TT is better in the slot.

Slot Reciever: Travis Taylor

Goal-Line Recievers: Hank Baskett and Marcus Robinson

Right Takle

Starter: Marcus Johson
I believe MJ is our starter at RT - given that we got Hicks at RG

Backups:
Mark Rosenthal, Ryan Cook

Right Guard:

Starter: Artis Hicks
This guy knows the system, and Childress told reporters that he will start at Right Guard

Backups: Chris Liwienski, Anthony Herrera, Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle, Adam Goldberg

Center:

Starter: Matt Birk
Birk is back - and is one of the best at his position, no doubt he will start

Backups: Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle

Left Guard:

Starter: Steve Hutchinson
Hutch is proberly the best guard in the NFL, he will start

Backups: Anthony Herrera, Ryan Cook, Jason Whittle, Chris Liwienski, Adam Goldberg

Left Tackle:

Starter: Bryant McKinnie
Coming of a very good season, McKinnie will start again this season

Backup: Adam Goldberg

Defensive Ends

Starters: Kenechi Udeze, Erasmus James
Lets hope Udeze can stay clear of injurys..

Backups: Ray Edwards, Darrion Scott, DeQuincy Scott

Defensive Tackles: Pat Williams, Kevin Williams
Raaaaaaw!!!

Backups: Spencer Johnson, CJ Mosley, DeQuincy Scott

Lineback:

WILL: Chad Greenway
Will play the weakside linebacker

Backups: Napoleon Harris

MIKE: ???
Everyone will get at shot at this

SAM: Ben Leber
He's payed to be a starter - and so he will

Backups:
EJ Henderson, Dontarrius Thomas

Cornerbacks

Starters: ANtoine Winfield, Fred Smoot
No doubt

Nickel: Cedric Griffin

Dime: Dovonte Edwards
Will proberly battle this out with WHittaker from NFLE

Safetys

Free: Darren Sharper

Strong: Tank

Backups: Dustis Fox, Willie Offord, Greg Blue

Kicker

Starter: Ryan Longwell
No doubt

Punter

Starter: Chris Kluwe

If he can get clear of that injury he will start of course..

LS: Loeffler
Holder: McMahon
KR: Troy
PR: MeMo

My guess at the 55 man roster:

1. Brad Johnson
2. Mike McMahon
3. Tavaris Jackson
4. Chester Taylor
5. Mewelde Moore
6. Ciatrick Fason
7. Adimchobe Echemandu
8. Tony Richardson
9. Joey Goodspeed
10. Jermaine Wiggins
11. Jimmy Kleinsasser
12. Marcus Johnson
13. Artis Hicks
14. Matt Birk

Some comments on Skum's post:

I say we make Jackson the 2nd string QB. Hand him the clipboard, make sure he has the headphones on, and have him send him every single play. If we totally immerse him in the offense I think it will help a lot.

Fason is not a goal-line back!!! Tice was idiotic when he put him there. Fason's talents and skills as an RB don't match up to being a goal line back at all. Our goal-line back is Chester Taylor. He is fine there, we have Richardson paving the path in short yardage situations.

Baskett has the potenetial to be good, but I doubt he sees much playing time, even in goaline situations.

Two TE sets are a very viable option as we still have Wiggins and Kleinsasser.

We have very nice depth on both lines.

LB is still our weakest position, but if two our of starters play solid football we will be fine there.

I don't think you can give the nickel job to Griffin automatically, he has to fight for it. I didn't like his highlight reel that much because he seems to be a really high tackler. Nonetheless, he provides a definite upgrade to our DB corps.

I would take it slower for Jackson, get him a QB coach to be with him during the week and during the game. Teach him one on one. McMahon has the skills to call the plays and the familiarity (some) with the O that Childress runs.

I agree Faison is not a Goal Line back and Tice is/was/still an idiot.

As far as depth on the D line, someone has to pick up the production we got from Johnstone when he was in the game. I think our O line will be fine also.

I like both Kliensasser and Wiggins, but the one thing we give up with Wiggins in the game is blocking. Wiggins has better hands though for pass catching.

About the LBs, I hope they fit the new system better than the old. If they do, then we might have a ton of LBs. I think there is plenty of skill there, just needs to be used.
