===============================================

Okay...for those who paid any attention to my first predictions, I was a bit more conservative with the wins as opposed to the losses. Having had some time to peruse our schedule, however, I'm a bit more optimistic. I was worried about the Miami game, because if it wound up being early in the year, like September, the stifling heat and humidity would play a big factor. With it being towards the end of November, though, I like their chances better.

Actually, the timing of all the outdoor games was pretty much the major factor in my prediction change. Well, except for the Washington game...I think Gibbs is just gonna flat outcoach Childress in his regular-season debut. As for the loss to the Rams...that's just gonna be a rest for the starters, since we'll have the division locked up after we beat the Pack.
:thumbleft:  :thumbright:

Note: This prediction is subject to change, depending on how well the Draft goes, and how healthy the team is coming out of Training Camp and Preseason games.

I hope you're right, seeming as we won't have to worry about another 2nd half collapse with Ticey gone

Alot of places have Arizona taking Culter or Young at 10 if they do that I'd be alot more worried than with Warner behind center. Boldin and Fitzgerald would accually have a mobile QB and Edge to pull the heat off them abit and open up passing.

Beyond that one I hope your right, really would love to see the Vike run through everyone this year to the playoffs.

I agree with most of your predictions except for the loss to St. Louis, I dont think the division will be locked up, i think we'll win that game but otherwise I really hope ur right.

I agree on all but 3 games. I think we will beat the Redskins, lose to the seahawks(although i really want us to beat them!) and we beat the rams. then lets say we face the seahawks in the nfc championship game!(and win)

Yes very optimistic

I think 12 wins is a little optimistic with a new coaching staff and all but here's my go at it.

Wash - Loss
Car- Loss
Chi- Win
Buf- Win
Det- Win
Sea- Loss
NE- Win
SF- Win
GB- Win
Mia- Loss (note if CPepp plays we WIN, he can't read the cover 2)
AZ- Win
Chi- Loss
Det- Loss
Jets- Win
GB- Win
SL- Loss

9 and 7 or 10 and 6

Next year should be markedly improved with a full year with the same coaches.

When was the last time we had all the same coaches back from one year to the next?

I think 12 wins is viewing the world through purple glasses. I would love for it to happen, I just don't see it... I predict a tough start but strong finish.

Finish the season 10-6. Probably be in the wild card for playoffs. We willhave a 5-1 divisionl record, so we may even take the NFC North...

10-6 this year is a real possibility IMHO. But it could be a bit worse just because of the brutal start to the season and with all the changes in personnel and coaching staff. I think we may need 2-3 games under the belt before we come on strong at the end of the season. I think us starting out the first three games 1-2 is a real possibility.

fabybaby32
04-07-2006, 04:25 PM
I agree with NodakPaul's predictions on every one except the Redskins game. I know they are a tough team and have had a great free agency, but I have to go with my gut and say that we will win that game. Dont know why I feel so strongly about that, I just think we will win that game for sure.

danimal292
04-07-2006, 04:29 PM
good point about taking a few games to get "comfortable".. that is usually the case... so, what I like about that is, it's during the toughest part of our schedule (where we might not fair too well at any point of the season).. rather that, than losing to a team we would beat later in the season if we were finally playing as a team..

9-7 with 3 road wins and that's being generous! Things could obviously get better with a Monday night home win over the Pats, but I see the Vikes losing two home games this season. Will Childress be up for the challenge? Division record 4-2! Should be good enough for a playoff, maybe even division if they go 10-6!

im gonna go with 10-6 or 11-5, id like to think with our off season additions that we can improve at least 1 game from last year.

How about a smooth 8-8 record for the boys in purple? Yeah, they should be able to make the post (wild card) with this record.
packers: 13-3 (and that's only b/c i'm not sure how our WR corp. will function.)

13-3?! Are you f-ing crazy?! Sheesh....

As far as the Vikes go...I'm remaining optimistic but I think that 12-4 or 13-3 is a bit too ambitious. We have the talent to do it, but with all the new faces/new coaches it's going to be tough to be consistent. I say we go 9-7 or 10-6.

just avoid the "when keeping it real goes wrong" predicament.

look, were not going to sweep the bears, packers or lions this year, lions have gotten too close to winning the past years, and it looks to be about that time this year. can the vikings really beat the pack 5 times in a row? from the playoff game 2 yrs ago, sweeping them last year and then to sweep them this year could be a dream come true, but i think the packers find a way to win one, maybe by using theyre pinstriped friends. thats 3-3 in the division.

out of division games
away:
washington - if Wilf fills some pinstripes pockets with cash we got a chance. otherwise, not a chance, first game. loss.
buffalo - i can see a win here. win.
seatle - not a chance. loss
SF - as long as theyre new coach doesnt turn out to be a genius. win
miami - Cpepp or no Cpepp. i think saban will outcoach childress. loss.

home:
carolina - i dont think we improved our team enough to beat them. loss.
NE - first time coach against belly check...are you kidding? loss.
arizona - they have improved drastically with edge. loss.
NYJ - not sure, but if things go well. win.
st louis - could be a good matchup. il be optimistic. win.

thats 7-9. no playoffs, and a ton of hope for next year. and thats my prediction.

You know that the pack is not going to go 13-3, and for the record niether is the vikings, unless one of the players (on either team) becomes an insane breakout.

And Favre does not really seem to be into it this year, so I would not have that high of hopes

I'm going with the same record but with a much better team, last year statiscally we weren't even close to the other 9-7 teams 25th D 21st O when the others were in the teens

so here's hoping to getting lucky and being 10-6, but on a bad day...8-8

I would love to see us go better than 9-7 mark but I just dont see it happening.

We have a completely new defensive and offense scheme, totally new coaching staff from beginning to bottom, and lost a lot on our offense.

I do think we will have a decent team and be in every game this year. But with all the changes I am not expecting us to come in and pick up just where we left off last year.

We are notorious for losing games we are supposed to win so I'm not even going to guess which games we will lose/win.

But I'm guessing we end up with an 8-8 record.

and Bonoy ou do realize the first number is number of wins and not loses a team gets in a year right? 3 is a much more realistic number of wins this year than 13

a lot of you are expecting to sweep the pack and lions this year. i highly doubt that will happen. lions are better every year, and farve enjoys the rediculous luck of the yellow flag. 3-3 in the division this year. we win our home games and lose the road games. expect a 7-9, 8-8 season my friends.

I think we can sweep the Packers, and I agree we'll split with the Lions. I think (as I said before) we'll be 9-7 or 10-6.

can and will, 2 different things. can we beat favre and the pinstripes at lamblah? for us to win that game we would have to be up 24-0 by halftime and win it 31-28. but i hope im wrong. i can see a 9-7 if teams expected to be good are not so good anymore, like seatle, or new england.

Unfortunately I agree with you. I don't see us running away with anything. I expect this year to be a struggle. I'd like us to go 14-2 and win the superbowl, but I think 7-9 or 8-8 is much more realistic at this point. We won't be cellar dwellars, but I'm not sure we're a playoff team either, although, I think 10 wins takes our division this year.

how much more re-tooling can we do before its called re-building? entirely new coaching staff, 2 best players gone in two years, almost comlely different recievers and backs from 2 years ago, in fact our team is almost completely different from only 2 years ago. how are we not rebuilding?

You could consider it rebuilding if you want. IMO its not. IMO we've weeded out the weak from the strong. This team is now composed of players who want to be here.Teams like the Titans, the 49ers, and the Raiders (etc.) are rebuilding. We've been in the thick of things for the past 2 years. We couldnt get over the hump with Tice. So just like Tampa in 2002-2003, we brought in a new coach to hopefully get us to the promise land. For the past couple years we've always fell short. It was either Injuries or terrible coaching.I think we have our pieces now, and its up to Childress and co. to use them right.

Absolutely correct. Every team in the NFL in the age of free-agency goes through some turnover year over year. The Vikes are no different on this front - some old hands go (Culpepper, Bennett, R. Smith, etc.) and some new hands come in (Taylor, Tank, Hutchinson, etc.) That's re-tooling.

Put it this way - would you rather be a 9-7 team with some new additions or a 4-12 team with major issues on the O-Line and an aging gunslinger in the pocket?

I expect playoff talk in Minnesota.I am fully aware of how impressive our defense was the second half the year and I am very excited to see what these guys are capable of.

I think we have been rebuilding but not in the typical way a team rebuilds we have been able to put a competitive team out there every year. We do have a very different looking team then we did 2 years ago but we did not "clean house" similiar to what usually happens with getting rid of old overpriced players. Because the guys we have traded are still fairly young we have gotten players and picks in return that been able to step in and play.

But the biggest reason we have been able to cover up this rebuild is because of the amount of cap room we had. But we have been in a rebuild over the past 2 years. Culpepper, Bennett, Smith, Burleson, Moss, Moe Williams, Anderson, Chavous. Brian Williams, Claiborne, Newman, and Hovan were all major parts to our team 2 years ago.

When I look at this list I am very surprised we are sitting as good as we are. Then we'll throw in the mix that we are going to have an entirely new offense and defense all led by a coaching staff that are ALL rookies at their current positions.

Trust me I hope to be wrong and that all works out as well as people on here are predicting. I am just looking realistically at how much change this team has had over the last couple of years and find it hard to believe we are going to have a 13-3 or even a 12-4 season.

I think we'll be around from 8-11 wins this season. Some of the games are hard to tell. I think some will come down to the last quarter. Like the Pats, Seahawks, Panthers, and Redskins. I'm not sure if we'll win the North but i think we have a shot at Wild Card and in the North.

Prior to each season I look at the schedule and predict the Vikes to go no worse than 10-6. That includes losing a couple of games within the Division if for no other reason than "just because".

The Vikes should sweep the pack and lions. And should at least split a games with the Bears. Seattle, New England, Washington and Carolina should be the only trouble the Vikes have outside the division, but shoud play right with them if not beat any of them. Having a consistent QB from the start and a defense with a year under their belts together should make the Vikes very good this year.

But the way it goes for the Vikes they will beat a couple of teams they shouldn't and lose to a couple they shouldn't.

My prediction 11-5. Losses to the bears, Carolina, Seattle, New England and one for the Packs (just because).

Realistically, losses to lions, pack, swept by bears, Carolina, Seattle, New England, Washington, Bills, Jets and St Louis.

5-11. We will see which team shows up this year. Remember we have a good QB now. THat will make the offense AND defense much, much better. So I am rooting for 11-5

I am saying 8-8, maybe 9-7. A lot depends on how well the team is able to implement the new systems that will be run on offense and defense. It normally takes first year coaches a few years to get their teams to buy into what they want to do. A lot also depends on Injuries. If Brad Johnson goes down at some point get ready for a top 10 pick next year. Mike McMahon is not capable of winning too many games for us. I think we have done a great job building up the O-line and our defense is pretty solid minus LB's. We are 2-3 years and a legit QB away from being a real contendor.

At Washington - close, but start off with a loss

Carolina - cant see us beating a team that good that early into a new system

Chicago - first win of the season

At Buffalo - tricky, but a win

Detroit - we gotta beat the lions, right?

At Seattle - loss

New England - not the team they were, and could certainly beat them

At San Francisco - still a poor team, even if they have improved, win

Green Bay - still a poor team, and they havent improved, win

At Miami - close, but i think we'll just edge it

Arizona - nice to see denny back, but we'll send him back to arizona with a loss

At Chicago - Toughy, but a defeat

At Detroit - We gotta beat the Lions, right?

New York Jets - Should be a win, but they will be vastly imrpvoed on last season

At Green Bay - Should win, but it will be difficult

St.Louis - Again, should win, but will be difficult

I got it down as 13-3, but it could easily be 9-7 or 8-8. We seem to have a schedule with loads of teams like ourselves, with not many great or awful teams.

6-10 / 5-11

Poor start, rebound slightly mid-season, only to finish hot & cold.

Team begins to gel, and function as a unit.

Johnson has tough year. T-Jack gets some playing time and shows flashes of greatness.

Seasons ends with disappointment, but 2007 season is where it all changes for the better.

Super Bowl rings finally appear and the wait was well worth it as Vikes appear in 3 of the next 5 Super Bowls winning 2 of the 3.

T-Jack become franchise player in the mold of F-Tark and dynasty comparisons begin ala Patriots / 49ers / Cowboys / Steelers.
