Vikings | Team expected to play preseason game against Oakland
Tue, 28 Mar 2006 22:06:34 -0800

Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports a tentative preseason schedule calls for the Minnesota Vikings to play host to the Oakland Raiders in a game televised nationally on ESPN. The game would mark the return of WR Randy Moss to the Metrodome.

Should be interesting... I think Winfield will shut him down.

ha! You think Randy would come back to the dome and get shut down? I love Winfield but lets get real here. The only way he gets shut down is because its preseason and he only sees maybe one ball.

Sorry, but I'd be cheering for Randy. I still view him as one of ours..., at least for a pre-season game.

Come to think of it, I remember a game when Moss was still a Viking, he caught the ball one handed for a TD against the Bills.

And I'm pretty sure it was Antoine Winfield who was covering him.

Thats fair. But if thats the case nobody should talk as if Winny shut him down. It would just be a matter of circumstance. I am not knocking Winfield either. He's one of my favorites. Also, this is a wierd conversation because its a lot of ifs

The ONLY people who can shut down Randy Moss are Randy Moss, his QB, and his OC...that's it, that's all, end of story.

That said, Winfield may knock the stuffing out of him - after the catch.

moss deserves to be cheered, while daunte deserves to be booed..moss wanted to be here his entire career, and never wanted to leave minnesota..daunte however forced himself out..i hope people will realize this, and give randy the standing ovation that he deserves whether or not he is part of a different organization

I agree. Moss was a Viking that was traded by you know who. So why would anyone want to boo him?

He didn't get a choice in that trade.

Just because he is no longer a Viking, doesn't take away from the fact that he was a Viking great.

Alan Page played his last 3 years in the league as a Chicago Bear. I doubt he was booed when he came to MN for those games.

Aaron Brooks. That was the best joke I've seen today. Moss' ability will be limited by the 0-line and Aaron Brooks. Preseason football is pure torture unless you watch the individual players battling for their NFL careers.

Do you think there will be any extra motivation on Randy's part? Wait this is preseason. He probably won't play more that a couple of series. Bummer.

I don't believe that for one second. Moss is on record as saying he would never win a damn thing playing in Minnesota. He said that while playing for us.

This is a preseason game. No matter what he does it will be moot. I would just as soon have our corners play half speed and him have 5 TD's, just to ensure none of our guys get hurt. All they need to worry about is applying what they have learned in practice.

Where to be on the field and when, as well as begining to build chemistry. What Randy Moss does or does not do in a preseason game is pretty pointless. The point of preseason games is not to win them.

Will Randy meet the Tank? Will Randy catch a ball over the middle and meet a rolling Tank that knocks him into the following week?

Even though he spent that time with the Bears, Page will of course always be a Viking. I think Randy will be a lot of the same way. Although he may (or may not) play more than 3 years as a Raider, I think Minnesota fans will always view him as a Vike. I know I do. I supported the trade, but I miss the guy.

I will be cheering for Randy. I would like to see him get a warm welcome from the Minnesota fans. He is an amazing reciever whose legacy will always be linked to Minnesota. And unlike that other guy, Randy left on somewhat amicable terms with the Vikings, and has had very little to say negative about Minnesota since.

Skol Randy. I can't wait to see him live again!

I read through this and finally someone said what I was thinking.

This isn't going to be a game when Randy plays when he wants to, it will be a game that he plays when the coach wants to insert him into the game, like let's say the first two possessions.

Hopefully our D holds them to 2 three and outs!

So Randy is on the field for 6 plays thrown at once, maybe twice.

For old time sake or for old dome sake, send him long!

We might see him more if it is the last preseason game.

For sure. If I could be there, I'd definitely cheer for him because I still remember watching him work and only being able to say "Wow..."

When Randy Moss makes his return to the Metrodome....will you boo him or cheer him now that he is a Choakland Faider ???
Personally I have always felt that once a player is no longer a VIKING that I could give a rats jiggly a$$ about him,but in Randys case I will NOT be booing him.....if you remember it was Red NOTRandy that wanted the most gifted WR ever to put on the horns shipped out of town.

NO BOOING!!!

Randy never said anything bad about us fans...so why should we turn on him? If I ever meet him, I will only thank him for all the great memories that he gave us...and tell him that I wish that he could have stayed a Viking for life! But as it turned out, we had to go our seperate ways...that's the business of the NFL.

No, booing Randy would be a waste of energy.

We should only boo him if it was a regular season game!

Randy Moss in my eyes will forever be a Viking... He will never put up the kind of numbers with Oakland that he did as a member of the Vikes. I agree, he didn't have a say in the trade to Oakland, that was Hillbilly McCombs that screwed us yet again.. I don't know about all of you, but I will be cheering for Moss, but I will root the Vikes on to victory..

He should be cheered, afterall,he was traded. He didn't ask to leave, and at the press conf. in Oakland, he "DIDN'T" say a bad thing about Minnesota. He said he "STILL" had much "LOVE" for "MINNESOTA"!!! I'll be there in my #84 "LOST" jersey and I personally will cheer for him, and I know that I won't be the only one! Now once the game starts, he's a Raider and I want the D to shut him down!

 Please. I would get sick of the actions of the people in charge, too. It's not like Childress wanted him to be here. I doubt that he wanted Daunte in the first place. The Triangle of Authority was acting more like a Triangle of @$$holes at that point of the offseason. Why stay in a place where you're clearly not wanted by the fans or the ownership? If Moss wanted to stay, he should have walked the narrow line that McCombs set out for him. I know that the reasons for trading him were stupid, but he knew that old Red McCheap's patience was running thin and he didn't change a thing. With that being said, it wasn't his fault. I maintain that the trade wasn't Daunte's fault either. It would have happened no matter what he did. I think the ToA had already made their decision to trade him long before he said he wanted out. He was just going with the usual "You can't fire me...I quit!" defense to make sure that his trade value dropped and that his bosses who had been such jerks to him by keeping him in the dark would get as little for him as possible.

With that being said, I think it's time we stopped dwelling over players who are no longer on the team. I'm not going to boo Daunte any more than any other team's starting QB, and I'm not going to cheer for Randy, as he's no longer a Viking.
