Vikings Ink McMahon, Williams

By Tim Yotter

Date: Mar 23, 2006

The Vikings signed backup quarterback Mike McMahon and strong safety Tank Williams on Thursday.

A league source has confirmed to scout.com that the Vikings signed quarterback Mike McMahon to a two-year contract and a team source announced the signing of strong safety Tank Williams.

According to ESPN, McMahon's contract is worth $2 million, with $400,000 up front and an additional $300,000 roster bonus next spring.

McMahon, a 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, enters his sixth year in the NFL after playing four years in Detroit and last year in Philadelphia. It was in Philadelphia that McMahon played for new Vikings head coach Brad Childress, who was the offensive coordinator last year for the Eagles.

“He’s very detailed and he’s straightforward,” McMahon said of Childress. “He’s not going to feed you any lines. He knows the offense inside and out. He was calling plays in preseason and at the end of the year, and I just know how dedicated he is to his work.”

McMahon has 14 career starts, seven of those coming last year while filling in for an injured Donovan McNabb. In Philadelphia, he completed 45.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and eight interceptions with a 55.2 passer rating.

For his career, he has a 44.5 completion percentage, 15 touchdowns and 21 interceptions—a 55.1 passer rating.

McMahon was scheduled to meet with the Denver Broncos Thursday, but the Vikings' signing beat them to the punch. He is expecting to compete for the No. 2 spot in Minnesota.

Williams is a 6-foot-3, 223-pound strong safety who spent his first four years in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans after being a 2002 second-round draft pick. He has averaged 66 tackles and 1.25 interceptions per season, but he hasn’t received much interest in the free agent market, possibly because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered on Nov. 14, 2004.

Williams is expected to compete with Willie Offord, who is coming of an ACL tear last year, for the starting spot at strong safety.

The Vikings had serious interest in safeties Will Demps and Dexter Jackson, who each signed with other teams last week. Demps signed a five-year contract with the Giants and Jackson signed a four-year deal with the Bengals.

I know since yesterday there has been a lot of excitement about the fact that Tank Williams is coming in for a visit today and the possibility of him signing with our Vikes. This excitement also includes myself, but my question is.......

Why have we not mentioned anything about this guy before, was he always a free agent or did he get released recently? For someone we seem so excited about, this is really the first time I have really heard any talk of him this offseason, by anyone on here or any team, except the Titans wish to resign him. I looked at Len Pasquarelli top 50 UFA not that it is really important but he is not even on there... but neither is Ben Leber  haha...

either way after seenin his stats and how young he still is... I think he fits in amazing with our secondary. We need the hard nose player/hitter to complete our secondary that we could have gotten with Darius last year.

But how is this guy with what he could potentially offer to a team fly so low under the radar? thoughts please.......

He had a torn ACL in 04 so most teams passed on him. He is still young so he may not be as experienced as others. He also fits the cover 2 extremely well considering that he is a big physical SS who may also have a nose for the ball. Our Safeties will complement each other very well now.

Plus, this keeps up the Williams ratio, what with losing Brian and possibly Moe

He is gonna punish WRs next season...Offord too. Either way, we have two heavy hitters back there now...Sharper should have a field day picking off passes now that an enforcer will be at the other safety spot!

Punish those WRs who dare to come over the middle!!! :evil4:

You're exactly right PPE. Last year Chavous was adequate, but never really made the big hits that a guy like Ed Reed or John Lynch make. Now we'll have him to crush recievers over the middle, and Sharper will be able to pick and choose where he wants to gamble for balls much, much more easily. They are very complimentary to each other. Plus, the dude just has an awesome name.

Way to make up for that McMahon mistake, we have the Tank and he is rolling into town! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

All we need yet in FA is a nickel back, and my prayers would be answered is the Vikings to trade for Matt Schaub!

I wonder if "he who shall not be named" is bumming that he wanted out of here! The Vikings have had the best off season of any team in the NFL!

I think both signings fit our needs. Tank ... well we know he will fit our scheme well. McMahon gives us an immediate back up who is familiar with BC's offense.

The writing is on the wall for us to make a big run at a top draft spot to big up one of the "big 3" at QB.

Go right ahead!

All right!
Stop whatcha doin'
'cause I'm about to ruin
the image and the style that ya used to.
I look funny
but yo I'm makin' money see
so yo world I hope you're ready for me.
Now gather round
I'm the new fool in town
and my sound's laid down by the Underground.
I drink up all the Hennessey ya got on ya shelf
so just let me introduce myself
My name is Humpty, pronounced with a Umpty.
Yo ladies, oh how I like to hump thee.
And all the rappers in the top ten--please allow me to bump thee.
I'm steppin' tall, y'all,
and just like Humpty Dumpty
you're gonna fall when the stereos pump me.
I like to rhyme,
I like my beats funky,
I'm spunky. I like my oatmeal lumpy.
I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack
but sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat.
Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy
I'm a freak
I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom
I'm crazy.
Allow me to amaze thee.
They say I'm ugly but it just don't faze me.
I'm still gettin' in the girls' pants
and I even got my own dance

The Humpty Dance is your chance to do the hump
Do the Humpty Hump, come on and do the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, just watch me do the Humpty Hump
Do ya know what I'm doin', doin' the Humpty Hump
Do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump

People say "Yo, Humpty, you're really funny lookin'"
that's all right 'cause I get things cookin'
Ya stare, ya glare, ya constantly try to compare me
but ya can't get near me
I give 'em more, see, and on the floor, B,
all the girls they adore me
Oh yes, ladies, I'm really bein' sincere
'cause in a 69 my humpty nose will tickle ya rear.
My nose is big, uh-uh I'm not ashamed
Big like a pickle, I'm still gettin' paid
I get laid by the ladies, ya know I'm in charge,
both how I'm livin' and my nose is large
I get stoopid, I shoot an arrow like Cupid,
I use a word that don't mean nothin', like looptid
I sang on Doowhutchalike, and if ya missed it,
I'm the one who said just grab 'em in the biscuits
Also told ya that I like to bite
Well, yeah, I guess it's obvious, I also like to write.
All ya had to do was give Humpty a chance
and now I'm gonna do my dance.

Oh, yeah, that's the break, y'all
Let me hear a little bit of that bass groove right here
Oh, yeah!
Now that I told ya a little bit about myself
let me tell ya a little bit about this dance
It's real easy to do--check it out

First I limp to the side like my leg was broken
Shakin' and twitchin' kinda like I was smokin'
Crazy wack funky
People say ya look like M.C. Hammer on crack, Humpty
That's all right 'cause my body's in motion
It's supposed to look like a fit or a convulsion
Anyone can play this game
This is my dance, y'all, Humpty Hump's my name
No two people will do it the same
Ya got it down when ya appear to be in pain
Humpin', funkin', jumpin',
jig around, shakin' ya rump,
and when the dude a chump pump points a finger like a stump
tell him step off, I'm doin' the Hump.

Black people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
White people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Puerto Ricans, do the Humpty Hump, just keep on doin' the hump
Samoans, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Let's get stoopid!

Oh, yeah, come on and break it down

Once again, the Underground is in the house
I'd like to send a shout out to the whole world,
keep on doin' the Humpty Dance,
and to the ladies,
peace and humptiness forever!

Well, moving up in the draft is certainately more of a possibility now, but I still don't think it is our #1 priority in the draft. I think that if one of the top three fall to 10, then you might see us make a move.

This is awesome! Great signing, alot of us where big into signing him at the start of FA and he quietly fell off the map. I've been wondering for weeks if we had even contacted him. This is great news tho, solid SS, great size and speed. Deff un upgrade over chavous IMO. But I'm like 90% sure now we're movin up in the draft.

I just don't think we need superstars at every level on our D..

EJ and Leber are good.. And Napo needs to prove himself yah.. But he was hurt last year and didn't even get much of a chance to prove himself

We can get by just fine with those LB's but it would be sweet to get another

This is an amazing offseason; now we just have to get Neal and Schuab, that would make it the best offseason ever. Plus we're gonna have 5 picks in the 1st three rounds. I think we should try to get schuab even if it takes a 2nd and 3rd; or a late first (we could trade down in the 1st to get another 2nd, then trade the low 1st for schuab). Then we can pick the best available, hopefully LB's and maybe G.

EJ finally learned to plug the right holes defending the run, but he still cant cover the slowest players on the field..the guy wont be able to learn to cover anybody, and the cover 2 demands that..we either move him to the middle to start, or else we have him as a backup with harris starting in the middle

Actually in the Tampa 2 the MLB has to cover the deep 1/3 middle of the field like a safety most of the time, is EJ really the guy we want for that? I think he would actally fit better at OLB in the Tampa 2 where he doesnt have to play as deep as he would at MLB.

He played every game last year but even after a year of healing they say it really takes 2 to be 100% off an injury like that, Thats why sasser hobbled around last year, he could still feel it. My guess is he's getting a fresh start and he'll be 100% and pumped to work with a defense that has as much talent as ours. When he got a visit here to minn, i think there was no doubt in his mind he wanted to sign here.

This is awesome news. I am very happy about out FA pick ups. Not quite sold on McMahon but Childress knows him better than I do. I wouldn't mind Neal either. Not sure where we are as far as cap space but they would solidify this team and just add depth in the draft.

When he got a visit here to minn, i think there was no doubt in his mind he wanted to sign here.

This is awesome!! Hopefully your right about the two year to be 100%! There is not a doubt in my mind either that he wanted to sign with us...part of the reason i think so is because we have one of the best secondary coaches, now as our DC....and he can much improve his game!

Meet Tank Williams, our new linebacker. I was just discussing this with my dad. He was like, wtf, he is horrid in coverage. So we looked at his size. 6'3", 230lbs, as big as the linebackers coming our of college are now. He will have good linebacker speed, and has to be at least decent in coverage since he played safety. Remember, Childress commented on something we won't expect at linebacker. This is what he was talking about. I love it.

Cool, I guess that fills the Chavous void... sort of.

Corey was good for a while, but I guess he's kind of over the hill. So we got a pretty good starter, who's 25 or 26 years old.

I guess its a pretty good signing.

I think your actually underestimating him.

I look foward to seeing him surrounded by great players like winfield, sharper, williams, ect... He's never played in a defense with guys like we got, and he's a true teamwork type player. I think he will flourish in our defense.

Yes, I can't even believe we signed Tank. I absolutely love the guy. I haven't seen him play a whole lot but I've heard that he is pretty good. I would much rather have him than Demps, Dexter Jackson, or (as someone mentioned) Adam Archuleta. Great signing, it's funny how a week ago most of us (myself included) were down on the Vikes for not making any big moves. For the second year in a row, we have had the best FA period of any team in the NFL.

I'll give you that with Sharper but this is not the place to share those opinions. The man has reached God status with most here. I'm also with you on the picks. Winfield is basically having another safety in terms of all the tackles he gets (yet he still covers very well) so I I like having a guy like Sharper taking some chances to get some ints. Tank or Offord will be the guy to step up and lay guys out.

And that is exactly why your post is wack. Fox is CB trying to play safety, needs to be moved back to CB where he can play nickle or dime. 170 pound newb SS is not cool. Instead we got a 6'3 225 pound SS that hits and can cover TE's, be like a LB up in the box. SS are for guys that are big. Not 170 pounds. Fox may get his chance at safety in the FUTURE but right now we have Darren Sharper, one of the best FS in the league.

And i agree we have the best secondary in the NFC, Winfield and Sharper put us over the edge. Phili has a decent secondary but very overated, see last year. Carilina is good, alot having to do with the great defensive line they have, they get alot of pressure on the QB, same with the Bears, those teams defensive lines make there secondary. Now if we could get our D Line to play up to the draft potential, we will have the best secondary in the NFC.

Slow, and out of position. Interesting news there.. So if that is the case, what does that say about every other DB in the NFL? He led the NFC in INT's, he led all of football in INT return yards. He was the starting safety in the probowl for the NFC. Oh yeah, and he also had his best year as a pro.

You can live with the picks? I guess everbody in the NFL secondary is slow and out of position. Dude get your facts straight before you ramble that mouth off. Darren Sharper is what kept us in alot of the games we played. The guy is phenomenal. I am asking you to simply tell us who was better then Sharp last season. Thats all man..

How do your overrate a player that has the most INT's since entering the league as a rookie? Since he's been in the league nobody else has topped him. He's a true playmaker, he scores TD's. He's a good tackler and he'll strike you if he gets the chance.

If anything was a weak point it was chavous, he didn't make any plays and he couldn't cover but he's gone now.

We got 8 pages of people slobbering all over Tanks jock, like they've been wishing for his signing since he became a FA.

Yet, there was hardly a single post by anyone wanting us to sign this guy before yesterday, but now that he's signed, people are acting like it's a dream come true.

WTF's up with that?

Granted, I don't know a lot about the guy, but when I compare his stats of his last 3 full seasons to Chavous' I have to ask, "Why is he an improvement over CC?

Did he start all those games, was he just active or what? Is it just because you think his name is cool? Or did we just down grade at the safety position?

I understand where you're coming from sp. But I think Corey's numbers in 2002 and 2003 are slightly inflated because of the bad defense we had. The safeties were making a lot more tackles than they should (because the of the schemes and not-too-great LBs). If you deduct that slight inflation it would appear that CC and Tank are on par. I see them as equals. As long as it's not a downgrade, it's fine with me. Besdies, Offord will give the man a run for his money!

Tank is an upgrade from Chavous IMO, especailly at SS. Chavous is not built physically or mentally for the SS position. He won't knock your block off and he can't cover TE's.

Tank is 25 years old with cover 2 experience and 4 years experience in the league. I would say at this point Williams has far more upside than chavous has ever had.

Regarding your comment about nobody mentioning him all offseason, you just didn't get in the right threads, maybe i didn't mention it but i was very aware he was on the market and felt he was a better fit for SS than chavous.

I definitely agree that Tank is an upgrade over Chavous. Not a big upgrade, but he is better.

The biggest reason why I wanted him, is because he gives us that big hard hitting SS, that we have lacked since Griffith. I think that that hard hitting SS is underrated and overlooked by a lot of people.

Tank will give us a nice boost in the run support and also make receivers pay when they go over the middle. Chavous did either of these things. He isn't the best at coverage, but how many SS's in the NFL can you say are good at coverage?

Even with this signing though, I still think Offord could suprise some people and win the starting spot at SS. I am not saying he will, but it is a possibility. I think even if he doesn't, we will see Offord out there on the field quite a bit this season.

Either way, I will be happy seeing someone other then Chavous back there at SS. I have never been a fan of him.

It also depends alot on just how well Offord comes back from his knee injury after just one year. I agree though offord can play, and we'll see him on the field, either on defense or specail teams.

I do believe Tank Williams will win the starting position, at 6'3 225 pounds and running a 4.45 he's got everything you look for in a SS. Its the coaches job to take him to that level of expectations. The titans secondary has been horrible the past few years, obviously there's some talent and coaching issues there, williams has a chance to come in and play with some great players and under some great coaching. I'm hoping that Tomlin will get the best out his players, if he's as good of a coach as people believe he will have Tank playing to his true potential and will land him a starting job.

Yeah, this could be another situation like Sharper last year. Sharper was coming off of a down year or two and people didn't think he was any good anymore. He comes in here, where he actually got to play with some other good players in the secondary, and he explodes for the season he did. I would assume having sharper, smoot and winfield to play with, will help Tank be an even better player.

I am a big Offord fan too though and I kind of feel for him right now. I think Chavous would have eventually been benched for him, had he not gotten hurt last year. Hopefully he can come back strong off of his knee injury. Wouldn't be against using him at SS some on passing downs and Tank on rushing downs.

Black people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
White people, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Puerto Ricans, do the Humpty Hump, just keep on doin' the hump
Samoans, do the Humpty Hump, do the Humpty Hump
Let's get stoopid!

Oh, yeah, come on and break it down

Once again, the Underground is in the house
I'd like to send a shout out to the whole world,
keep on doin' the Humpty Dance,
and to the ladies,
peace and humptiness forever!

No way is our secondary the best in the league...they havn't even played a single down together. I remember last offseason there was a lot of rumblejumbo about how our Secondary was going to be soo good....last I can remember we did pretty bad (although we did step it up towards the end). Top 10 is stretching it even I'd say.

That said, I'm happy with the signing of Tanks. He should make WR's pay for coming across the middle. And yes he is definitly an upgrade over CC...The stats may look similiar but the presence on the field is different.

We're talking about the cast of players. Obviously time will tell but until then why don't you name the ten better secondaries. Well since nobody has played a down, you can't so tell me the ten secondaries with better players than ours. I'd love to hear this.

he had better linebackers and a better defensive line than the vikings in his first couple of seasons..that is why his tackles are lower than chavous's..this guy is an upgrade over chavous because he is faster, and is a much harder hitting safety..not sure about his range, but his speed likely gives him the advantage over chavous in that department too

I like the Tank Williams signing. You can't count on Donterrius Thomas to knock Javon Walker out of every game.

You don't always have to "cover" them. Fear is like having another player on the field. And he's from STANFORD, so he's smart, too.

That list of the top 50 UFA means the 50 most expensive players available, not the 50 best for the Vikings. Tank will knock some folks out.

McMahon will help run the practices and develop all of the players in Coach Childress's system because he already knows it, and has played it.

I had my doubts and wanted to see the new Vikings in Charge in the free agency period as the first test. I really figured we could all get along with our departed QB, and railed against it, but now I have reason to trust that they are making sound decisions because I can see the body of work thus far in free agency.

Hutchinson is enormous. Hutch and McKinney on the left side? Good thing Brad is tall!

I think we are severely lacking as a Championship team at Middle Line Backer. When is the last time you recall a Viking MLB really tearing it up on the field? The rest is coming together. IMO we need a freak of Nature who wants to help Farve with his decision to retire, laying on his back, looking up at the stars at Lambeau that no-one-else-can-see.

LINE BACKER

can u hear me now? :)

I think we are set at QB with Johnson and McMahon. BUT, I'd love it if we did get Cutler. He seems exactly the kind of person the new Vikings would want to wear our colors.

Who are the best LB's out there in FA and the Draft?

Did he start all those games, was he just active or what? Is it just because you think his name is cool? Or did we just down grade at the safety position?

Because Corey tackled and hit like a little girl, and Tank explodes on players! Last year he was coming off a knee injury so lets compare him to Corey after this season, and see who has the better stats. And Tank is 25 as of today, and Corey is 31.

I can not wait to see a receiver come across the middle, and Tank lays the smack down on him!

After all the other players we have gotten in the FA so far, and the needs we have addressed I think a lot of people are excited about Tank because it was unexpected! It happened quick, we filled a need, and we got a solid player when it looked bleak for getting a safety.

the cover 2 means the CBs are man to man while the safeties are zoned..he needs to cover ground..he is fast, and he hits like an animal, and that is why he is perfect for us

I'm SO glad Chavous is gone. He couldn't cover anybody, could never recognize a pass or run, and didn't even tackle very well. The only reason he had a lot of tackles was because they picked on him all day.

Anyone would be an upgrade.

and Dustin Fox is better suited for FS when Sharper's gone, or CB as he's slight. he played CB at Ohio St. as a Senior I believe.

Thats the good news, he did very well his rookie and sophmore campayne. Then the injury bug hit him and slowed him down. I think he'll be fine, i think he's an upgrade for our defense. We have one of the best secondary coaches in the NFL, he won't let talent go to waste.

That sucks, wish the would have signed him to a 3 or 4 year deal, it might have been all that Tank and his agent would agree on. He probably is expecting to have a great year, then resign with us or test FA again.

No, this doesn't suck at all. It is actually a win-win for everyone. Tank believes (probably correctly) that he was not 100% last season due to his injury in 2004. He knows that he will do better this year, and will probably command a better contract. The Vikings were getting fairly close to their cap, and this contract will save them a little space while still getting a quality Safety. Next year, assuming that Tank has the year everyone is expecting, watch for a much better, longer contract to come his way.

Well that's what they told him in a sense.

He still visited with the Jets and is going to see the Skins. He even said the Vikes may be interesting.

He is not a fan of the way they do things in seattle. They were trying to move cash around fast to accomadate hutch or peterson, I think they expect to resign him, but he is desperately looking for another team.

Any chance that he will talk with the Vikings? I know he had some nagging injuries last year (Hammy and Ankle), but the guy is fast and a good cover corner! I did not know he was a close friend of yours Del.

No doubt he is a solid corner. He did get hurt unfortunately and the Seahawks kind of pushed him to come back since they were making a run for the SB.

So.......I really hope so I would love to see him at nickle.

He got cut to free up cap space. That and I guess he had words with the head coach.

He was here in Utah visiting his mom. He may go to the Jets or Skins. We went out to a bar last night and he played with tank with the Titans. Told me and mt buddies some stories then left. Said tank was a very good guy, a hard hitting saftey.

He will get picked up somewhere.

Any chance that he will talk with the Vikings? I know he had some nagging injuries last year (Hammy and Ankle), but the guy is fast and a good cover corner! I did not know he was a close friend of yours Del.

He would be a great pickup for our nickle back, and with Winfield getting up in age he could replace him next year!

Yeah we grew up together. He lived 2 houses down his parents and my parents are really good friends. I remember in 1998 when it looked liked the Vikings and the Broncos would be in the SB it was getting tense. He is a huge Bronco fan.

We brought him in last offseason and he said the talk went well, but then I guess we decided to go with Smoot instead. I told him the other night he needs to sign with us and he just kept saying it's not up to him lol.

His agent seems like a dick. I have met him a few times before. He basically said the Vikings have called, but nothing has been set up. I asked Dyson if he wanted too much money for the Vikes and he said he would play for peanuts to get out of Seattle.

He is a penny pincher so he is still rich beyond any of my dreams. His brother was at the top of his game and a few years later he was gone out of the NFL. Almost all his money gone. Andre is a bit more careful now, and he seems to understand it is an honor to play in the NFL.

He seems positive he will be a Jet, because I guess they have been the most agressive. I told him to go to Minnesota so he can get some party boat action.....he said that's not a bad idea LOL. I seriously doubt he comes here. I would be very very happy if he did, but Childress and Co. would have to put forth some effort. It sounds like they probably wont.

That is a shame! Childress said yesterday that they are pretty much done with FA, but if we could get Andre it would be huge for us. He is one of the fastest guys in the NFL, and can cover the good receivers. Plus he wa in the Superbowl last year and would be able to help us get there!

Well I wish him the best of luck where ever he goes!

Graduated high school with Goldberg. You didn't think I have him as my favorite player because I think he's an all-pro? We haven't stayed in close contact but we definitely chat every time we see each other. I will say that there is nothing better than seeing a hometown kid on the Vikes, especially a former teammate.

I think he is over looked on the Vikes. He has the size, and it takes a few years to become a solid O-lineman in the NFL. I hope that he gets a shot at right guard, or the Vikes switch Johnson and Goldberg and he give him a shot at tackle!

I think in time he will be good. Maybe he's ready now to step up and be dependable but he is definitely worth keeping around because in a couple years he will be a good starter. He is still young, ewspecially for all the game experience he has.

He was a stud on the line. He had two teammates who played O-line at Drake and Air Force so it was fun to watch those guys dominate the line. We haven't been a football school since the 60's and early 70's but I doubt they've had a line like that in awhile. Goldberg was an All-metro player and clearly the leader. He also started in the paint on the basketball team. For his size, he's always had very good feet and agility. At Wyoming, they considered playing him a little at TE but he was such a good college tackle they kept him there. He is a very friendly guy. Real genuine and not full of himself at all. Its easy for Vikes fans to not want him in the lineup and thats understandable, but its impossible not to sheer for the guy and be very happy for him. THink of the dream he's living right now playing for his home team. Especially for an undrafted rookie.

I have no clue what it was like going against him because I was 5'8" 165 in high school. I stayed as far away form him on the field as possible lol

Tank will be a TANK in the middle, no doubt.
As well, Kleinsasser will not be traded or dealt or the other crap being posted here. You don't realise how good he is as I and Brad do; shame on you. Brad said he will be important, and I believe him.

"You don't realise how good he is as I and Brad do"

Have you not been reading posts on this board? We all LOVE The Sauce! He's the best blocking TE in the NFL with deceptively good hands.. We have just been discussing what we think might be in the ins-and-outs of Childress's WCO, and based on past evolutions of the WCO, 2 TE sets aren't that prevalent. With Wiggins assuming the role of our #1 TE last year, it became a worry that we would try and renegotiate Jimmy's deal because of his injuries and his new spot at #2 on the depth chart, or cut him. It seems to be the case that we are not going to cut him and that he will stay.

"The experts on this board should get their ass outa their ears, and quit being all knowing."

"Ass outa their ears"? Wow.. I don't think I've ever been insulted in such an articulated manner before. Ever. I mean.. Really.. Am I supposed to take this seriously?

And with regards to the "all knowing" comment, we're all engaging in speculation.. And naturally everyone thinks their opinion is correct until otherwise proven. It's the nature of Freedom of Speech. Anyway, you criticise people for being "all knowing", but your post smacks of arrogance and a narrow-mindedness to everyone's opinion but your own!

This is the first post of yours I think I've ever read, so I'll just say it now:

Welcome to the board!

The Sauce is beautiful. We just need to kick Wiggins out of town, can't block, can't get any yards after catch because he's so fat, and is not a game changer. If we need a pass catching TE, get someone who is more of a total package. Who's for Leonard Pope? Can block, beastly size to beat up on defenses, and is a receiving threat.

Actually Wiggin's YAC is low. Last year it was 3.5 and for his career only 4.5. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5297/career;_ylt=AmsosCmtxv9fgEHMJDq8m2r.uLYF Its just that the yards he gets is at the right time for a first down.

It puts him near the bottom in NFL TE's last year. 2005 TE YAC (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/byposition?pos=TE&conference=NFL&year=season_2005&sort=46&timeframe=All) Granted TE's do not get that many yards after catch, but Wiggins is kinda low with this.

He does like to leave his feet a lot. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I always coach my players to leave their feet as a last resort. It is way to easy to take down a guy once he is in the air; Del Rio can attest to that.

Fact of the matter is Kleinsasser has done jack shit the last few years and Wiggins has anchored the recieving core.

the way I look at it, this was a necessary move because, with the expected departure of Moe Williams, we would have been beow the "Williams quota." Plus, there will be 3 defensive starters with the Williams surname. This will make sports announcers' jobs that much easier too.

Makes sense to me. That sounds like a smart move.

Also, we have our two D. Scott's at Defensive End now as well, so as you pointed out the announcers only need to remember a couple names on the defensive side of the ball to be covered.

Wow this is a great post from top to bottom. I am a huge Sasser fan but he really hasn't done much the past couple of years. I'd love for him to be here healthy and contribute to our success but if he were to leave, it may help us improve even more. With T Rich and Wiggins what will Sasser's role be? Remember, Tony has great hands to go with his lead blocking ability and we all know what Wiggins can do.
