MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Vikings signed guard Jason Whittle on Monday. An eight-year veteran who has spent six of his seven NFL seasons with the New York Giants, Whittle has played in 109 career games with 39 starts -- seeing time at guard and center. He's also a long snapper.

Whittle started all 16 games in 2004, but he was a backup last year. Whittle joined the Giants in 1998 as an undrafted free agent from Southwest Missouri State.

The Vikings also talked with backup quarterback Craig Nall, who was in town for a visit. With Daunte Culpepper on the trading block, Minnesota is in the market for another backup to Brad Johnson. J.T. O'Sullivan is the only other returning quarterback.

Nall was a fifth-round draft pick by Green Bay in 2002, and he has played sparingly behind Brett Favre for the Packers since.

Another player the Vikings had interest in was safety Dexter Jackson, who signed a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals instead.

I thought this was old news. Didn't we sign him back before the new CBA stuff happened? I'm confused (which isn't unusual).

You're probably right. I've been confused lately. The fact still remains, he's signed :). I didn't check my sources, it was from a rinky-dink newspaper that took a while to get the news.

So who does that give us as far as O-Line personnel (assuming we sign Hutch):

M Birk
M Fowler (?)
A Goldberg
A Herrera
S Hutchinson
M Johnson
C Liwienski
B McKinnie
M Rosenthal
J Whittle
C Withrow

Wow, 10 O-linemen. I assume Fowler is gone and ofcourse it doesn't appear that we are going after Foniti. That seems a bit excessive. Maybe we should cut some dead-weight.
