yeah we got sh!t....

anyways...i am very curious to see what the raiders do to cut down their cap space...they are 26 million dollars over the cap...and cutting moss would cut that down considerably...now i am not predicting they do it...but it would be best for the sitution...

either way they will suck, with our without moss..!

Now that we have had a season to see what we did get, we really didnt get anything out of the trade. But I do think that Troy can be good in the future.

we got a receiver that we never needed after signing K Rob (williamson), a 3rd string linebacker (Harris), and some useless 7th round pick or somethin like that

Most of these threads are burried and hard to find.

It isn't that bad to discuss it.

_____

wyo,

Basically, there are a few ways to justify this:

We got rid of an attitude and cap money.

We got hosed by an owner that wanted Moss gone.

There are many ways to swing these to takes, and you will find that there are strong opinions one way or the other.

But for the most part, the concensus is that we are over it, what is done is done.

As far as Napo, who knows. We probably won't know until he gets released or training camp rolls around.

OK, so what did we REALLY get in the Hershal Walker trade anyway?

(Heck, since we are bringing up old trades...)

We got to get rid of Randy- he was causing problems (taking plays off, not getting along, trouble with law, offending fans at games, etc). I don't think it was their intention to benefit from the trade. But he was winning games, so they regretted it this season. Although the owner and coaches who did the trade are all gone now anyway. The real question is, would've the coaches kept their jobs if they didn't trade him?

Not the point I was trying to make? I could agree and disagree with last years trade. It all depends what side of the fence I am on. I am a die hard life long viking fan. My point was we have a team full of PLAYER and potential. Randy Moss was not the team as others would say, the prob was that no body went out and proved it besides Brad Johnson. Wil the New owner live up to what he says and money is not the issue? They all say that when they come in but is it true. Will the new coach make an impact and lay down the law because todays pro athletes need the law and direction. This is a team sport and it starts with the owner and rolls down hill, everyone has a part to play, even the city if minneapolis, the state of Minnesota and all the fans world wide. I am tired of saying next year, 1999 was the year and should have been a start of a dynasty but Nooooo, the wheels gotta come falling off. We the fans have a right to demand a champion, we have stood by year after year just to get jerked around.

Sounds like a state of the union address.

Good questions!

I think we found out a lot about our team last season through the hardship.

WHAT did we get anyways? We got a lesson learned the hardway.

Well, I think we picked up some pieces to the Defense puzzle last season. I think that we could definitely improve a bit more this season. We will see how much work our guys put in during the offseason to get this new Cover 2 down. But, are we going to see growing pains again this season?

On offense, we found out that we are nothing without an O-Line. This we are going to try to change in FA.

A big flaming bag of poop!

Thats what!

You cannot even compare the Moss trade to the Walker trade. The Walker trade is talked about every year around draft time.

People tend to forget the fact that Herschel's first run from scrimmage was pretty exciteing. Remember he lost that shoe and scampered like 60 yards or something like that.

What if Burns wasn't such an idiot. Burns and Tice have much in common. You could see the VIKES were using the big H wrong and you could yell at the TV all you wanted to try and get them to change the play calling, and they just wouldn't listen.

Wrong Place at the Wrong Time!!!

I believe it was a kickoff return...I think.

Anyways, after that huge run it was called back for an illegal block or holding; I cannot remember which.

And that is when I knew Walker was doomed in MN.

Must... resist.... bait... oh crap, I'm hooked.

<takes deep breath>

Moss's problems on and off the field were image as much as reality. It was an image perpetuated by the press, and an image that he enjoyed. He prefered not to have attention diverted toward the incredible amounts of money he donated to charity, or to the fact that he would almost always give a TD ball to a special needs fan when he saw them in the stands. He became a household name not just because of his amazing abilities, but also because of his antics. And let's face it, fame sells (how many people on this site didn't own a Moss jersey.

Admittedly, he was beginning to cause problems among the staff and the players, although he never reached TO levels. The Moss trade was most likely a mutual decision. He wanted to see how he would fare elsewhere, and the Vikings were ready to start a new era. Plus it wouldn't surprise me if this was part of Red's going away present. He seems the type to try and screw people over as he moves on.

I do believe that more was expected out of Napolean Harris, and keep in mind we also got T-Will, who was a great pick IMO. We also opened up the field for other players to take the spotlight. Sharper and K-Rob are just a couple of examples.

Would we have won more games with Moss? Possibly. This is kinda like the BJ vs C-Pep debates. Everybody has their theories, but none of them are provable. Our record wasn't exactly impressive the last few years with Moss (28-36 in '01-'04).

Whether or not we agree with the trade or not, it is in the past. Over. Done. There is nothing we can do now to change it, and trying to measure the new players against the ghost of Moss is unfair. Nobody can live up to that.

We got Sam Cowart, Fred Smoot, Pat Williams, Troy Williamson, Darren Sharper, Napoleon Harris 20+ million free cap space this year.

Well ok not all that needed moss gone to obtain.......a lot of it though. We also got rid of a coaching staff that obviously couldn't get it done with the IMPROVED player base.

Sorry guys Napo is better then he was able to play under Cottrell. It's useless for me to argue until he proves himself in the Cover 2, but if at all possible I would try to hold judgment now that our players can play under a real D-cord.

I look at it like Nappo had found success early on in his career. He comes to Minneosta and all of a sudden he sucks? Dosnt make since right? Well throw in the fact he played under one of the stupiest Defensive Coordinators in the league. Who had a Defense stacked with talent but couldnt do anything with them for weeks. Finally all the players gelled and thier natural skills shined. I'm gonna go into this season with a open mind twords players like Nappo and Smoot. Under a new smart up and coming DC in Tomlin, they have a strong chance to excell.

We got rid of a player that only played when he wanted to, we got rid of alot of money in the books, and we did get rid of alot of bad publicity until that dam boat incident. I love Randy Moss, but we were 1 game better without him then we wre with him, and we lost alot more than Moss last offseason..

We took a shot missed on the player, but we saved some CAP money.

No big deal either way sometimes these trades do not work out. I miss Moss but time to move on plus he is getting old and Moss does not strike me as a Jerry Rice type with offseason conditioning.

Randy Moss admits he has used marijuana since entering the NFL seven years ago and still smokes it "every blue moon."

http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8747660

I loved his talent but hated watching mismanage his talent. Randy cheated himeslf out of MILLIONS of dollars by being a bad boy.

http://football.about.com/od/nationalfootballleague/a/mossantics.htm

The Vikings basically stole Randy just like we are doing with KRob. Our President is a CAP GOD!!!!

WOW!! This same topic sounds vaguely familiar!! O well, i was very dissapointed in Harris' playing ability!!! I wouldn't be too angry though!! Look how good Randy Moss did in Oakland!! We did get a good future receiver and we have a ton of cap space to use this season and many to come!!! So in the end we did get the bad end of the deal, but not by much!!!

Moss didn't exactly tear up the league for the Raiders last year. He has chronic ankle problems that will likely effect him the rest of his career. He'll never again be the receiver he was for us, IMO. The trade was good timing on our part.

what if we did this.... sign koren robinson... it would be a significant singing, but no where near the cash on randy moss's contract. trade koren and a draft pick to oakland for moss. oakland would significantly improve thier salary cap, have a good reciever. we'd take a little hit on the cap, but our old top 5 offense would pretty much be in tact - especially if birk comes back healthy.... ok ill stop dreaming.
