GETTING DEFENSIVE – The Vikings recent turnaround and 5-game winning streak is due largely to the increased number of takeaways the defense has generated. The Vikings now are tied for the lead in the NFC and rank tied for 2nd in the NFL with 18 interceptions as a team while FS Darren Sharper is tied for the NFC lead with 7 picks.

The Vikings have managed 10 takeaways in the opening 7 games of
the season (6 INTs, 4 FRs) and have reversed that trend to post 16 takeaways in the past 5 games (12 INTs, 4 FRs). The Vikings’ pressure from the defensive front has played a prominent role as well. The Vikings had 10 sacks in the opening 7 games and have 14 sacks in the past 5 games. In the opening 7 games of the season the Vikings were allowing 361.1 yards per game, but have turned it around in the past 5 games, allowing 283.0 yards per game.

I wonder how much hiring Foge Fazio has had to do with the defensive turnaround...quite a bit, I'd imagine.

I forgot who said it, maybe it was on the radio, but I heard one sports commentator saying he thought the Vikings D was one of the top 5 in the league now with the way they are playing...
