This Viking team is starting to resemble the Les Steckel debacle in 84. Kramer, Dils, Manning, & Wilson all took a beating that year. I can't ever remember a Viking QB getting sacked (or nearly getting) on every play until 2005.

The defense can potentially play better, but until the O-line works out its problems or the coaches adapt the offense to this weakness - we are in for a long season. In my opinion, the coaching staff needs to incorporate more three step drops and shoot in the passing game. Bad things seem to happen; fumbles, holding, etc. when these long developing plays start to break down.

i agree with almost everything you said except that were in for a long season, i still see us with a winning record and i would then think the season is too short

I agree - there is still opportunity to turns things around. The coaches need to adapt there way of thinking - the Denny Green/Brian Billick offense - vertical passing attack - just isn't going to fly with holes in the line and Pep's propensity to fumble in the pocket.

YIKES! Ya had to go & say the "Les" word didn't ya. Don't you mean Sgt. Steckel? :grin: He had help with a putz of offensive coordinator - Bob Schnelker! God I hated that guy. I dug this comment about them out of the bowels of the internet;

Bob Schnelker - Vikings offensive coordinator '80s - Remember when coach Burnsie got mad at the fans because they made Schnelker cry? This guy may have been the all-time worst assistant coach.

Les Steckel - Vikings '85 - A would-be tough guy who knew less about coaching than anyone ever associated with Minnesota sports.

Yeah, when I think of Les & Bob - I just remember the Bears game where Archie Manning took a beating. If it was a fight they would have stopped it at halftime.

But getting back to 2005, the game against Altanta really resembled the 2000 NFC championship game. Offensive plays that take too long to develop leading to turnovers and holding penalties. I think moving Pep into a two minute offense is the way they need to play road games to help step up the intensity and get Pep into a rhythm while enhancing his confidence.

Man, those names bring me back to the good ole days (except for 1984).

I dont know anything about Kramer, he was a lil before my time. But my dad does have a game used helmet of his.

I wondered how long it would be before we'd see the les stuckel/Bob S comparisons. After that debacle it took us 3 years to recover to make the playoffs in 1987. I do not want to go through that again .

To bad Bud Grant can't come out of retirement for a year like he did in 85 to put the team back together. :cry:
