KLUWE EARNS NFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE MONTH HONORS FOR SEPTEMBER

Minnesota Vikings' P Chris Kluwe has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September. He becomes the first rookie in franchise history to earn NFC Player of the Month honors in any category.

Kluwe leads the NFL with a 49.9 gross punting average, topping Tampa Bay's Josh Bidwell and Jacksonville's Chris Hanson by over 3.0 yards. His 42.3 net avg. is 3rd in the NFL. Six of Kluwe's 12 punts on the season have been 50+ yards.

Kluwe had one of the top punting performances in team history in his NFL debut vs. Tampa Bay (9/11) with a 54.3 punting average and a 42.5 net average. Kluwe's 54.3 avg. in the game ranks 2nd-best in team history (minimum 4 punts) and is the best showing ever by a rookie.

Kluwe had a 46.7 avg. at Cincinnati (9/18) with two punts inside the 20, and followed that game up with a 48.4 avg. vs. New Orleans (9/25) with two more punts inside the 20.

Kluwe is the first Viking to earn Special Teams Player of the Month honors since P Mitch Berger won the award in December of 2000.

KLUWE'S SEPTEMBER TOTALS (3 GAMES)
12 punts, 599 yards, 49.9 avg., 42.3 net, 4 inside 20, 62 long, 2 touchbacks

I'm very happy with the pickup of Kluwe, finally our kicking game is not the laughing stock of the league

Sweet!

Who would have ever thought that with the players we have that our Punter is getting mad props?

Man, we sure scored when we stumbled onto this guy...I'll bet that Seattle is 'punting' themselves in the you-know-what!

I have seen all three games (on T.V.) and I am still amazed every single time Kluwe punts. AMAZING! Wow, the personnel people hit gold with this one. He really does remind me of Ray Guy. Not just long but wow, those things never come down. Glad he got that award.

I really like Klewe, but I don't want to see him kick any more.

I only want to see TDs and FGs. The Punter should be eating Snickers the whole game. He should never have to put that candy bar down.

Sigh of relief though, it is good to know if we have to Punt, we have a guy that can do it well.

Oh yeah.....punter props. This whole time I though that guy that was with the Panther's last season was getting all the recognition.
