Had a discussion with some other Vikes fans the after listening to Tice on KFAN last night (9/21).

Mike Tice said that you need to win the division and we haven't played a division game yet.

As bad as the NFC North is shaping up to be, does that mean that we could go to the playoffs as a 6-10 team if we win all the division games and nothing else?

Scary thought! :shock:

I hope there is never a team that makes the playoffs with a losing record.

Hasn't someone with a 7-9 record made it before?

We'll know what to exspect after sunday. This game is HUGE, we're at home, and if we get some momentum before the bye week it'll help us alot!

I vaguely remember that might have happened. Not sure.

The reality is that there are too many playoff teams already. The marginal teams that prance in with a one-side team or that squeak by are usually schooled once wildcard weekend is finished. There is always a chance for a cinderella team, but they better be gelling and playing good ball going into the playoffs.

I would much rather have the Vikings stink it up early in the season and come on strong later rather than the 6-0 start the other year and then fold during crunch time.

Nope, not yet, not too many years ago (I believe 1990) the Cowboys went 7-9 and would have gotten in on a tie-breaker had the Saints (I think) lost on MNF the last game of the year. The Saints won and a 7-9 team was left at home again ...

Yeah like midgensa said it's never happened, I don't even think there have been that many 8-8 teams that have made the playoffs. I know last year was the first year that an 8-8 team won a playoff game when both the vikes and the rams did it! 7-9 in the playoffs is pathetic! (Not that 8-8 is anything to brag about!)

The 1985 Browns were 8-8 and won their Divsion.

1978 Vikes were 8-7-1 and won their Division.

every thing should turn for the good after our week 5 bye. but, anyhow, this 3rd week is crutial for the vikings, if they dont win, they dont have momentum going into atlanta, and then they would just get there asses kicked. The saints with 6 turnovers on monday and vikes with 8? on sunday...... great sloppy game to look forward to! We all know culpepper has potential, but can he turn it around soon enough??

Like someone else said, playing the Saints will be good cuz he has played really well against them in his career! I do worry about their D line though, they seem to get him 3 or 4 times a game!

a 7-9 team has never made the playoffs let alone win a division before

8-8 teams never made the playoffs until they went to 6 playoff teams

I hope we're not 6-10, but I sincerely doubt that any team will win a division at anything less than 8-8. 7-9 is a stretch for the playoffs...but theres no way anything less than 8-8 would win a division.

I bet a friend that we will have a winning record after the bucs game, even though were 0-2 so far i still think we can get it done no problem as long as daunte plays like daunte

In 1982-1983, the year of the strike & a 9 game season, not 1 but 2 teams made the playoffs with losing records. Both lost in the 1st round;

Clevend Browns were the 8th playoff seed in the AFC with a 4-5 record.
Detroit Lions were the 8th playoff seed in the NFC with a 4-5 record.

4 out of the 5 teams in the NFC Central went to the playoffs that year. Dah Bears were the only team who didn't;

Minnesota
Green Bay
Tampa Bay
Detroit

I bet $100 that the vikings would win the North over the packers. If the lions or bears win it then neither of us have to pay.
