Gads, the Vikes should draft U of M's Maroney now. 153 yards and two touchdowns in less than 1 quarter. Just watching the game.

Yeah, if they could.....the Vikes don't need anymore backs, after this season Smith will be back, Bennett will be gone...Mewelde Moore will be a star....who knows where we go after this season....if we need a RB, we should go for it, although I am sure some douche like Mel Kiper Jr. will be like "he has no future in the league" but anyway what a debut.....

Just to clear everything up, he's talking about Laurence Maroney, from the University of Minnesota. He's a running back.

http://indiana.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=23469

I'm not a gopher lover so I didn't know who he was talking about at first. Anyways, yeah he looks pretty dern good, not sure if I'd take a RB in the draft that high though, I think we should focus on O-Line.

I could see him as a possibility come draft day along with Greg Eslinger(sp) the Minn. center. Both of them should be available in the 25-32 range as of right now. Although you have to remember they are playing Tulsa and he hasnt looked to amazing running inside.

Was he supposed to be better or worse than Marion Barber?

fred3105
09-02-2005, 06:59 AM
Better.

Also hes almost 1/2 to the single game rushing record set by none other than LT with 406yards.

Another Laurence Maroney stat:
Cedric Benson vs Michigan: 23 carries 70yards
Laurence Maroney vs Michigan: 19 carries 145yards
Michigan's run D is one of the tops in the nation.

He also avged over 7ypc in 6 of 11 games.

Nah, we dont need another running back. Besides marooney did this against tulsa. Come on tulsa now. Tulsa sucks big time, even my warriors crushed them pretty badly last season as well.

Maroney would be better than any of the vikings backs. He is a great talent. His stats don't lie. Sure he plays some pee on teams, but he gets good stats against everyone. He just puts up even better numbers against the bad teams. But like fred3105 pointed out, he puts up good numbers against a great D like Michigan. I would be shocked if he wasn't a top 2 running back taken in next years draft!

He should be a top 2 rb in the draft. He looked good last night! He might not last till our 32nd pick in the draft next year.

Smith's contract is up after this season and I can guarantee he won't be "back".

I bet we do draft a RB in the 1st next year.

Wow, he did look HUGE ... they said he put on 20lbs of muscle since last season and got a little bit FASTER !!! He's a Stud, trade the rest and draft him and keep Moe ...

I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring back Onterrio Smith, given the fact I doubt Bennett will be here next year.

He does look much bigger than he did last year - hope hasnt lost any pace. One big knock on the guy is the fact that he has shown poor hands/ lapse of concentration while catching quite a few times. Like when he dropped a simple 5 yard dump off yesterday. He has one whole year to work on it though...

He also looked a tad average running through the middle.. though Tulsa loading the box might have had something to do with that.

Personally I cant wait to get to the game on the 10th. Go gophers!!!!

I wouldn't be upset at all if we drafted a Gopher in the 1st round! Wasn't the last gopher drafted in the first round by us Carl Eller? Man he looked studly last night.. Even if they arent that good of a D I can tell the dude has game.. I see us getting a RB or Safety next year

He will be #3, unless Deanglo Williams chokes or he put up record numbers.

Reggie Bush= top 5 pick
Deanglo Williams = 5-10
Laurence Maroney= 15-25

but its not like he ONLY does this to the bad teams. here are his game logs for the 2004 season:

2004: Rush yards YPC
Toledo: 107 7.7
Illinois State: 141 7.8
Colorado State: 132 7.8
Northwestern: 145 6.0
Penn State: 144 5.8
Michigan: 145 7.6
Michigan State: 54 4.2
Illinois: 72 4.8
Indiana: 89 5.6
Wisconsin: 57 7.1
Iowa: 156 8.2

he also had 12 TDs. only 3 games where he didnt rush for 100 yards, and only 4 here he didnt avg atleast 6 ypc, but it never got under 4. he doesent do exactly what he did to tulsa against everyone, but he does perfrom good every week.

Anyone think the Vikings will ever draft a RB in the first round?

V4L

I don't like the last RB we drafted in the first round! If we do that again lets hope he doesn't end up like him

I'm just wondering if it would be worth it... I mean, Imagining knowing who your RB would be for the whole season...

V4L

Yah I think Maroney would totally be worth it.. Since Bush and Williams will be gone by the time we pick.. Maybe even Laurence will be gone but that would be sick to get him!

I didn't think Maroney looked as good in the Tulsa game as he did last year. Other than the two long runs he got stuffed. I can't wait to see him against the big ten then we'll see how much he has improved.
That said I would still love to have Maroney on the vikings. We need an everydown back. What we have is a bunch of slightly below average backs who are overated by vikings fans and have benefited from defenses focusing on our prolific passing attack. True Moore put up good numbers last year but if the coaches are always so quick to demote him he can't be that good.

Hmm not bad i guess, but really do we need yet another runningback??? We could use the picks on something like our o-line, corner or linebacking core.

Our rb's are already set even if he does have good stats.

i didnt say we needed him, just defending ma boy. i would rather use our picks on the line or lb corps too.

Well anything can happen in 2 years since hes a Jr, but I wouldnt put him that high.

Side note Adrian Peterson looks terrible with 5carries 10yards in the 1st half...

I think you mean Adrian Peterson.

Bowling Green's QB is Omaar Jacobs he probably will enter and will probably be a 1st round pick. Some people think hes better than Matt Leinart becuase of the talent Matt Leinart has around him makes him apear better than he really is.

I would think Young would be around a 3rd round pick right now I dont think anyone has him in the 1st. Its also pretty likely that he will be play WR after he is drafted.

OU and TCU need to hurry up im missing Michigan.

Avant is a Senior that will probably go around mid 2nd/3rd depending on this season he has. I and a lot of people have pretty high hopes for him with Edwards gone he can finaly step up.

V4L
09-03-2005, 11:45 PM

Henne and Hart are both Sophmores, but played most of the season last year.
