i hope he does start over Johnstone or Scott whoever they decide he has to compete against, i think he can do more damage then Lance that play he had against the Colts made me think twice about him as a starter

I love the thought of Erasmus getiing to qb's and creating some pressure. I think him and Scott share it a few games and then Erasmus gets it.

The one thing I noticed watching the Vikings at the Houston last year, is the incredible amount of substitutions the have on almost every play. It seems like 2-4 plays sub on or off on every given play. Don't be surprised to the Darrion Scott/Erasmus James share alot of time at end this year. My inclination would be that James would be counted on alot more as a third down end.

I think that he may be able to work his way into the starting lineup by the end of the season...but we have enough competent personnel that can rotate in and out for various situations that we should be fine even if he does not start...he will get plenty of snaps regardless.

It is really impossible to say. Really, the chances of our entire D-line staying healthy the entire year is probably pretty small, so with some injuries I think that both Scott and James might be asked to fill in at different places this year. Ideally though, I agree that James should probably be more of a 3rd down end.

I see Scott playing on first and second down and that they will bring in James and Johnstone in passing situations to really put heat on the QB but we will see what happens as preseason starts.

I think he'll start. I just hope he comes along a little quicker than Udeze did. Kenechi made some decent plays last year, but really came along slowly I thought. I hope 'rasmus makes more of an immediate impact.

i think they will use whoever works for the best situation, if scott is better against the run they will use him more for teams that just run like baltimore.

I think we will rotate people in.. Udeze and Rasmus will share time with Scott and Johnstone I'm guessing.. Udeze will most likley play almost every down unless he wears down or doesn't play too well.. I hope Tice wants to have the line set and not rotate people though and have Rasmus win out the job

Will he start? Yes he will. James is our only natural speed rush RDE. Udeze is a natural LDE and that is why we got james, to move udeze to LDE. Scott isn't a RDE and johnstone is far more productive off the bench and with less snaps, so that leaves James.

Also, Tice has said he expects darrion scott to play DT on passing downs, next to kevin williams, so their is some of scott's PT, along with spelling udeze at LDE.

James will start at RDE and be productive at rushing the passer, because of his unreal first step. Johnstone will give james some breathers at RDE.

i think that is accurate. i figure he'll be a starter before we know it.

i think erasmus will be as fast as Freeney and thats a big assumption but just imagin the pressure our Line would get if he turned out like that

Freeney is probably the quickest end in the league, that is a huge assumption.

Yah, I would say more like Kearse speed or something.. Not Freeney though

Erasmus James ... 4.75 in the 40-yard dash

While Freeney runs about a 4.57.. I also got a 4.48.. And a 5.31.. But he is quicker then Erasmus..

I guess Kearse is super super quick too.. He clocked a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in 1999.. And apparently beat Dieon Sanders 40 time?

Deion until this year had the fastest 40 ever recorded at the combine. I believe he was officially 4.21 or 4.22 Fabian Washington had a 4.21 although i don't think that was his official time

THe first couple of games, james wont start but will be a situational player like some have mentioned. By the middle of the season, i could see him starting and being more than just a third down pass rusher. He'll spend some quality time manning the end spot with darrion scott.

Cant forget about scott. Hes one that i believe could have a breakout season. Just got that feeling about him.

Is there anything that could be more irrelevant than a D-Line mans 40 time?

but fast D-line men are great look at Freeney hes fast and i guess he came along greatly with his position

Erasmus looks quick in his highlights and he looks like he could punish a QB when he gets to him

i think Erasmus will rack up more sacks then Kevin in a few years and also Udeze he had 16 sacks in his senior year

40 yard dash speed means absolutely nothing when talking about DE's. There are guys that can run a faster 40 time then other guys, but run slower times then those same guys, on shorter distances, say the first 10 yards.

James isn't a speed rusher because of his 40 time, it is because of his quickness, acceleration, and unbelievable burst off the ball. These are all freeney attributes too. But I would bet that erasmus would have a similar time as freeney in the first 10 yards of a 40, and that is about what it takes to get to the QB, for a speed rusher. It is freeney's burst off the ball, that seperates him from the other speed rushers in the NFL, and erasmus has that unbelievable burst.

If he can stay healthy, he will be a great DE in this league, which is exactly what i said before the draft.

40 Yard Dash times show speed.. So thats why I got those.. I see where your coming from though.. Yah I should have maybe looked at 10 Yard Dashes as well.. Hovan isn't too quick but he got the best jump on the ball then anyone in the league.. So that would help his 10 yard dash more then his 40
