Does anyone know if players can just decide not to declare for the draft and go into free agency. for example, could Braylon Edwards have just not gone into the draft and signed with the team of his choice? I don't know if there are any rules about this or not. It would suck though because it would eliminate the need for a draft, and I think the draft is just as exciting as a game. A really, really, really long game.

I don't think that they're allowed to. I could be wrong though... Wait... I am SURE they can't or else they all would have skipped the draft and begged on hand and knee to play for us.

There is not nearly as much money for a walk on rookie, as there is for a 3rd pick verall

I think there is a way to do it. Not for sure here, but if a player is drafted, doesnt sign with the team that drafts him for any reason, he can sit out that entire year and basically becomes a F/A.

Don't quote me on this, but i think it has happened few times in the past.

But I think the player also gets a bad rap as not being a team player for doing this though.
