our highest paid player is Matt Birk while Daunte is making $550,000. Something does't sound right.

those are BASE salaries...obviously Daunte got a huge signing bonus a year or two back when he inked his new deal worth over $100M

Yeah, it is all in base salaries, incentives and bonuses. CPep got a huge bonus with his contract and has it set up not to lose much money if hurt (regular salaries can be voided due to injury under the bargaining agreement) If Birk went down for 8 games he could lose a chunk of change, Daunte not so much. All in contract structures.

The best thing about contract in the NFL is there is very little gaurenteed money. A player might sign a 5 year 20 million deal but have only 7 million in gaurenteed money the other 13 mil comes from performance.

Unlike the NBA where if a player signs the same deal no matter what happens even if hes cut injured or trade he will still get the whole 20 mil
