I'm excited. I'm not sure we didn't get the best guy of all the recently filled vacancies.

Awesome. This guy should have been a HC long ago. I am glad we got him. Bengal fans are pissed off that they lost him, Steelers fans are happy they don't have to play his defense twice a year anymore.

This guy will instill drive and determination into this team, and he has the eye to know if a guy is a fit for his defense. I sense a lot of changes coming in the next few months.

If he brings in Turner, Kubiak, or Linehan as his OC, either one would be a good hire. I hope he brings in a good DC, but I believe he will be overseeing the defense, so it doesn't really matter in that aspect.

Now let's get our defense fixed through the draft and free agency, and get our franchise QB in the draft, and we will be on our way.

I am pleased with this hire. Should give the team a bit of an aggressive edge which it lacked before.

I can't wait to hear who will be hired as offensive coordinator. I think there are pluses to each candidate mentioned by Vikesfanwis. Turner should get more production out of the passing game, Kubiak could take Peterson to even greater heights than he's already reached(which is terrifying) and Linehan who could expand the offense both vertically and horizontally, possibly getting Peterson into open space in the passing game?

The defense is instantly improved just by losing a tired scheme in favor of flexibility.

Just saw Mark Brunell and Antonio Pierce discussing this hire on the Mother Ship. Knucklehead Pierce dissed the hiring saying Vikings needed an offensive minded coach. I guess he didn't bother to check that we had the 13th offense with no qb and the 31st defense. What an idiot.

I would be happy to see that, everywhere he has gone he has had a great offense. And he can teach QBs, something we have NEVER had that I know of. I have never seen a Viking QB grow or progress in our system, so it would be very nice to get him. I just don't ever want him as a head coach!!

A more balanced offense is more unpredictable; ergo more dangerous.

Fantastic hire. Bengals fans are happy to see him get his promotion, and sad to see him leave. Their forums were blowing up about it the last two days.

Time for our defense to man the fuck up. I have long suspected that we have some guys who can ball when they don't have to run a tampa-2 scheme, and I think we're about to find out whether or not I was right.

Pretty pumped up about this.

Haven't posted in awhile. Good to be back.
I'm feeling good about this hire. This guy is wasting no time getting to work to assemble his staff and all. Good to see. Turner is an excellent choice for OC (hope he accepts). Not a good HC, but great OC.
All thru this past shitty season, I believed we had the talent to win, but no direction. Players played hard for Frazier till the end, but his staff was inept and incompetent. I know some guys on here liked Priefer, but he may be let go just from the fallout of the Kluwe BS.
I like the names I'm hearing as Z works to put his staff together. One of his choices for DC, Paul Guenther, took same position with Bengals.

and I recall seeing smart comments in recent weeks as to how the NFCN was between the Packers and Bears for the forseeable future... suddenly that is not the case and I can see their coaching staff and players getting a little twitchy about what is coming to Minnesota

Agreed , I've been looking at some Bengals boards and not one person is upset to see him get a HC job and many surprised it has taken this long to happen, they're genuinely sorry to see him but glad for him.
Some are concerned that some of their FA's may follow him as well.
Some exciting times coming up and will make for an interesting offseason

If we improve our Defense we have a real chance in this division.
We all saw how poorly the Bears and Packers where without their QBs.
Half ass Offense and a good D thing could look a lot better next year.

That had better not be the case. The HC should hire his own staff...and NO ONE from the previous regime should be retained. I'd even fire the water boy.

If that were true, then Spielman would need a good thrashing...

Congrats Coach Zimmer!!!

A fiery competitor at the helm of the Vikes. Our Team just got tougher overnight… I'm stoked about this hire. I expect him to bring a strong set of Coordinators with him.

I have only heard admiration and respect for Zimmer from former players, coaches, colleagues. Sure, people question the fact that he hasn't been a head coach, and, will point out that our lack of a passing game required a "QB guru" or a top shelf OC to be appointed HC. This Team needs a LEADER at the helm…personally, I think they got this right. We shall see, but, I love it.

I am a fan too, but from Spielmans point, if shit goes wrong, he can say that
"it was the coaches decision", and it takes his own ass out of the fire. Just my 2 cents.

My understanding is that Zimmer is primarily a 4-3 guy. Nothing special on how he draws up coverages or blitzes, his strength appears to be getting players to actually do what they are being asked to do.....or he will do it for them.

Lippythelion69

In Dallas
They had the number 1 d one year with him. They had a few good years with him. He also was the one coach Parcells kept when he came to Dallas and was able to switch to a 3-4 d for parcells even though he never coached that before

Lippythelion69

So he must be good to stick out to Parcells and for him to keep him to run the d even though he never coached the 3-4 d before

I've been critical of the hiring of Frazier, but I believe Zimmer is a HOME RUN! He is a no nonsense guy, he is tough, has a great knowledge of the game. His players respect him very much. He doesn't coddle players, he coaches them. Great pick and I already like Norv as OC.

I'm excited as well. It looks like they are bring in a lot of coaching experience. And I like Zimmer's football philosophy. A great coach not only teaches players how to play but they also shows them how to play as a team. Honestly is the best policy. Be straight up and truthful and then you get their respect, then you build the team.

Don’t be surprised to see them first develop QB protection and add a few stronger Defensive player and give Matt one year chance. You can't fix everything in one year..

My 2 cents

Mike Zimmer - Head Coach

Norv Turner - OC
George Edwards - DC

The Frazier hire appeared to me as a stopgap while the team was rebuilt.
Any GM or owner that hires any head coach as a stopgap is an idiot. That is especially the case when the top players on the team are already veterans. Wilf needing to pay Childress and any new head coach may have pressed the ownership to hire on the cheap.

I can't remember a HC hire with the Vikings that I was more exited about.I agree. This hiring makes more sense than both Childress, who did not actually coordinate the offense he was coordinating, and Frazier, who ran a poor defense in Minnesota before being promoted.
