Or he will leave Minnesota to become the Lions head coach

Just a gut feeling

I don't think he has even been linked to Detroit. I might be wrong on that, but every indication is that the Lions are zeroing in on Jim Caldwell which is fine by me. I would rather face a Caldwell led team twice a year that a Whisenhunt led team.

If Zimmer leaves without being signed, I believe Minnesota is looking at someone else instead.

I caught a few minutes of the sports talk show with McCunky on Fox sports last night. Matt Leinhart was on there and they asked him about the Whisenhunt hire. He kinda knifed Whisenhunt I thought.

If Zimmer is signed by Detroit I would be happy to see Whisenhunt as our head coach. I think he did a great job with the Cardinals and he is an offensive guru, something we desperately need. Maybe we could develop a QB if we draft one, instead of watching him die on the vine.

Crap, I was hoping he would be the dark horse in our pursuit of a head coach. I actually liked that choice better than Zimmer.

Ken's record:

2007-8-8
2008-9-7
2009-10-6
2010-5-11
2011-8-8
2012-5-11

I do not, I am not really impressed with his record, sure, he got the Cardinals to the Superbowl but that was all Kurt Warner, do you think the Cardinals would have made the Superbowl if Matt Leinhart was starting? I doubt it

Do you really think the Packers would have made it to the super bowl without Rodgers? The Saints without Brees? The Colts without Manning? That analogy isn't really a good one, any time a team goes to the Super bowl there is a good chance it is because of the QB play. Look at the two opponents last year, do you think the Ravens would have made it without Flacco, he was outstanding in the playoffs, what about the Niners and Kaepernick? This is a QB driven league now and you need a franchise QB to win a super bowl or at least play like one in the playoffs (Flacco) IMO!

Not really, look at Trent Dilfer who was medicore with the Buccaneers and Ravens but won the Superbowl thanks to their defense

You named one time and it was a defense that is considered one of the best of all time. Not a good comparison again unless we have an all time best top ten defense.

So? It shows proof that they do not need elite quarterbacks to win a Superbowl

OK so you are on the record that you want a Trent Dilfer type QB, we have a few of those right now, how'd that work out for us?!!? You point out one time a hack QB wins a super bowl and it is the NFL trend, great thinking, Are you sure you aren't Leslie Frazier?

That is why I don't want us to draft McCarron(sp)? too much in that type mold, imo

Let's try this again: If Zimmer gets Vikings HC job, I expect him to target Lions OC Scott Linehan in that capacity & Paul Gunther as DC...

Just what every Vikings fan wants, another mediocre QB !
There are 4 teams left in the playoffs. Their respective QB's were selected first overall, second round, third round, and sixth round. That alone would indicate that good QB's can be found if you don't have the first overall pick. The odds are long against finding that franchise guy the further down the draft you go, but there will end up being franchise QB's in this years draft class. Lets hope the new HC and OC have some say in picking that QB, and Spielman is aggressive in getting him.

Paul Gunther? That name sounds familiar, is he from the Chiefs?

Who in the hell is Paul Gunther? On a side note, I am all for Linehan coming back here as OC. At the very least it won't make our offense stale bread boring.

Two of those QB's are at the bottom of the league in contract size allowing them to be surrounded by first tier talent across the roster.

This year's 4 finalists show two completely different approaches to building a championship ball club. One is to center around a HOF calibre QB and fill in with whatever you can muster and the other is to use rookie contract QB's and surround them with top of the league defenses and strong running games. NE is an imposter IMO. The other 3 are legit.

Never heard of him. If Zimmer thinks he is qualified to be the DC, that is good enough for me.

I am guessing that Speilman and Zimmer are fighting about full control, this is provably why it is taking so long

if that turns out to be the case, then good for Spielman. why should he give someone in his first head coaching job full control? I think Zimmer will be good, but does he realize 4 other teams have already passed him up? if he proves to be a great coach, then he can leverage for more control. Speilman has shown in his first two drafts he knows what he is doing.
It didn't work out too well giving Chilly to much power

I'm not sold on Spielman, yet, but he does know football, and I'm a strong believer in a GM centric system.
Let the coaches coach and give the GM control over who those coaches will be in addition to who the players will be.
The owners need to trust their GM choice and resist meddling. The GM needs to trust his coaching choices and resist meddling.
I think Zimmer is their man, and it is likely the delay is due to them working out contract issues rather than haggling over the power structure.
I agree with you. Zimmer just needs to be a coach.
Just found out he is the Vikings new head coach, woot woot !
