So Spielman has been with the team and involved in player personnel since 2006. I kind of think there is more correct decisions he has made rather then bad. Although finding a QB hasnt been one of his strong point obviously, there has been quite a lot of correct calls made. Lets review

2006

Drafted Greenway

Drafted Ced Griff - Ced griff was a very good corner for us until he got hurt, which you cant really put on Spielman. He was very good in the 2009 season

Drafted - Ray Edwards in round 4

Extended Kevin Williams 7 years 50 Mil
Signed Hutch 7 years 49 Mil
Extended EJ Henderson 5 years
Signed Chester Taylor 4 years 14 Mil

2007

Drafted Adrian Peterson
Drafted Sidney Rice
Drafted Brian Robison in round 4

Signed Shiancoe

2008

Traded for Jared Allen

Drafted Letroy Guion round 5th round
Drafted John Sullivan in the 6th round

Signed undrafted FA Erin Henderson

2009

Drafted Percy Harvin
Drafted Phil Loadholt
Drafted Jamarca Sanford round 7

Extended Antoine Winfield 5 years

Signed Brett Favre

2010

Drafted Everson Griffin round 4
Drafted Joe Webb round 6

2011

Drafted Kyle Rudolph round 2

Chose Greenway over SIdney Rice when we couldnt sign both

2012

Drafted Matt Kalil after trading back 1 spot and picking up extra picks
Drafted Harrison Smith
Drafted Blair Walsh round 6
Drafted Jarius Wright round 4
Drafted Audie Cole round 7

2013

Traded Percy Harvin

Drafted Floyd, Rhodes, and Patterson

Now I know you can make a list of the bad as well but my point was is that it isnt like he is totally inept... like a Jeff Ireland type

The win/loss record speaks for itself. We can blame Frazier and coaching, but clearly Spielman contributed when you consider the Ponder, Freeman, and Winfield transactions.
This is now Spielman's team. We will see were it goes from here, but an NFL franchise is a sum of all it's parts and how they all work together, and the only objective measure of success, mediocrity, or failure is the win/loss record. That record under Spielman has not been successful and needs to improve.

Spielman didn't have full authority over the draft until 2011, so claiming he & he alone brought in those players prior to that isn't accurate.

Drafting Kalil was a no brainer as was drafting Floyd when he fell in our laps at the time of our first pick. Patterson, so far, appears to be a good pick but we gave up a lot of picks to get him in a talent deep draft. Rhodes is looking like a good pick.

Cole might pan out, but lets not forget that Spielman was the one who put him on waivers mid-season to bring up Murphy from the practice squad. Luckily he wasn't claimed off waivers.

All his FA transactions can be found here so you decide how many good players he brought in & how many didn't pan out or are mediocre to average;

nowhere did I say Spielman has done a great job, but he isnt the worst and deserves more time... really if you think about it all draft picks are a crap shoot. the GM that gets lucky the most usually gets the credit as a great GM but really he probably stepped in shit...

for example look at Jerry Reese of the Giants - has 2 super bowls, he didnt draft eli, matter of fact he has been a terrible drafter and terrible at signing free agents... yet because he has 2 super bowl rings he would be considered better then Spielman, and its not even arguable because of that... but really reese is a bad GM that got lucky.... so luck plays a big part

My problem with Speilman is his teams always have Qb issues.

Amen to that... and he has a big problem getting solid players late in the draft in rounds 5-7 and undrafted free agents... when's the last time we signed an impact undrafted free agent..??? Seems teams like Green Bay and others have a ton of them...

I also think aside from D-linemen he has only really hit on no-brainer picks in early rounds... Let's not all forget Ponder, McCauley, Ryan Cook, Trading up for Toby, TJ, Tyrell Johnson, Asher Allen, Chris Cook... Seems we draft a corner every year and they all suck... sans Rhodes.
