He shows he can play on the NFL level and he been sitting back watching Brady and learning from him, remember the vikings still have Seattle 4th round pick. I'll gamble with him better than these QB coming out now u dnt know wat u gon get like when they drafted Ponder and the vikings never do good drafting a QB something to think about

How exactly has he shown he can play?

He has some scattershot preseason action and a couple garbage time throws in 2012 nothing that I'd put any faith in.

As for being under Brady you know we already employ a QB that did that in Matt Cassel so being under Brady or any other stud QB does not a stud QB make.

Forget it. Rather keep Cassel.

Nope, has proved nothing in the NFL.. Not to mention his stock dropped with character issues coming out of college. No thanks.

Wat if the vikings sign Josh McCown

Maybe. He's big and has a great arm. But why would New England let him go if he's a competent backup to what will be a 37 year old QB?

Don't know much about how he is after two seasons but I like the idea of going after a young promising backup if Spielman really thinks he sees one. I want those first three picks to be defense.

He has thrown just four passes in his career, completing one for 17 yards and throwing an interception.

What do you suppose the QBR is on that impresssive sample size.

I wouldn't trade much for the guy. He's proven absolutely nothing other than having the almighty Belichick and Brady radiating their awesomeness on him. Kind of like they did with Cassell and those other guys.

first the vikings would have to evalute him ....i would trust norv and zims evalution...given that ...he has been with a respected organition...hopefully he has matured...belikcheck loves draft picks and his ego that he can win with anybody i can see him letting him go ...SO YES I LIKE MALLETT

I think if the Patriots are willing to part with Mallet that says enough about Mallet to know that we do not want him.

so if a team is willing to give a player up ...you think he is no good...but he is next inline behind brady if brady goes down they will have mallett ...i think that sez something ...why did they let wes welker go ...money matbe but if they wanted him they could have came up with the money ....belicheck ..thinks he can win with antbody never over pays ...like alot of other teams do...we let allen go and williams go because of their age money and we have players to step in and play ....

Being "next in line if Brady goes down" means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and "sez" NOTHING. Jesus, Curtis Painter was the next in line if Peyton went down ... and he sucked. Luke McCown is next in line if Drew Brees goes down ... and we know that he sucks. Tarvaris Jackson is next in line when Russell Wilson goes down. Colt McCoy is next if Kaepernick goes down. Scott Tolzien was next for the Packers.

Being next in line to a good quarterback does not mean shit. At all. As a matter of fact ... the next in lines to good QBs are often TERRIBLE because they have so much money tied to the top guy.

If they are willing to let Mallett go when they definitely drafted him to be the next guy ... then ... yeah ... I think it is a sign that they at least think he is no good.

What makes him any good? He has never shown any reason to think he will be a good NFL quarterback. I mean ... if they would take a fourth rounder ... fine. But, seriously, if they are willing to take a fourth rounder for a cheap backup QB ... then they clearly don't think he is that valuable.

And yes, they obviously let Welker go because of money and age and it was not a terrible move ... though it certainly can be questioned. But, Vilma and Smith and Welker don't matter at all ... the question is Mallet. (P.S. Vilma and Smith have not been good in years.)

And I don't understand why anybody has a hardon for a quarterback who has NEVER shown anything at the NFL level. What makes him a better chip than Cassel? Cousins? Hell, at least they have played. Mallett is a huge question mark at best. Is he worth a shot? Maybe. Is it at all logical to think he is any better than any of the top QBs in the draft? Absolutely not.

By the way ... why does anybody think that the Pats would take a fourth-round pick for a guy they spent a third rounder on? That would make absolutely no sense ... unless of course the Patriots know that he sucks.

Mallett, who was often projected prior to the draft as a first-round talent,[19] fell to the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft, where he was selected 74th overall by the New England Patriots (using the pick they received when they traded Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings); that pick is the highest pick the Patriots have used on a quarterback since taking Drew Bledsoe number one overall in 1993. According to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, the Patriots rated Mallett as the best quarterback available in the 2011 draft; nevertheless, six other quarterbacks were taken before the Patriots drafted him,[20] drawing comparisons to Tom Brady, who was the seventh quarterback chosen in 2000, though with the 199th pick.[21]

A good read from before the 2011 draft.

2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ryan Mallett | Bleacher Report (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/541618-2011-nfl-draft-ryan-mallett-scouting-report)

Not saying we should or shouldn't get him, there are many options and it's up to the staff to pick the best one, hopefully they look at all possibilities.

Saying we shouldn't get him because he hasn't proven anything is a bit silly as none of this years draftees have proven anything either.

Saying we shouldn't get him because the Patriots are willing to let him go is also a bit silly. Mallet has 1 year left on his contract, Tom Brady has 4. Nobody likes, or is better at acquiring draft picks than the Patriots, and they know they won't resign him, or get anything for him next year.
