It's a scenario, certainly. Here is the article Norseman was referring to McDaniels could finally get the quarterback he wanted | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/02/mcdaniels-could-finally-get-the-quarterback-he-wanted/)

I would think Spielman at least tries to sign Cassel for another year, given that this year is Cassel's option to opt out. Cassel may decline, and would be smart to wait until a new coaching staff can define his role (which, theoretically won't happen for months), but, I think Spielman will try to keep him.

Honestly don't think any of our current QB's will be here next year. This is good news.

Yes and no... I think having Cassel as a reliable back up would make drafting a rookie that much easier. He seemed to click with the receiving corps and does add some veteran experience. I'd hate to see him go.

Thing is other teams can't contact Cassel or his agent with job offers while he's under contract with the Vikings.

Cassel only has between now & February 7th to opt out of his contract. If he does do that, I don't believe he becomes a FA until March, same as the other UFAs.
