Why Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson Has 'Bust' Written All over Him

Toward the end of the year, they [Tennessee] started to go away from running Patterson down the field on routes and gave him the ball on reverses and screens, even as a halfback at times. That starts to put a question mark in your head. Why?

Well, there's reasons, and it's just not being as proficient with his route-running and not having the ability to make adjustments during the game.

Of all the picks in the first round he seems to have the greatest risk/reward gap. It is tough to draft a high caliber WR in the first round or for that matter any round anyways so I am not going to place too much hope to him and see how it goes. WR is always a crap shoot.

First six games:
23 catches, 315 yards - 11 rushes
Last six games:
23 catches, 463 yards - 14 rushes

hmm... seems like this person may be talking out of his backside.

I heard in practice he was doing quite well ... crisp breaks in his routes etc. ... learning the play book quicker than expected ... too early to tell much.

LOL!! My thoughts exactly...another poorly written stretch of the imagination based on nothing.

Those stats seem to make it pretty clear that he was active in every game, and dominated some at WR and some from RB and the first one from both positions going for 93 yds and a TD receiving AND 72 yds and a TD rushing! In other words, looks like he did whatever he was asked to do, probaby based on match-ups.

The key here is does he want to do the work, cuz thats what will most likely determine his level of success. Sounds to me like the Vikes liked what he had to say...

"Hearing him talk about some of the things he had gone through to get to where he is now, you get a feel that this guy has a purpose," Frazier said. "He understands what's important. Just hearing the story kind of convinced me he would be a good fit for us."

Talk is cheap. He better be ready to work his azz off to make up for his lack of skill. It will take more than a few 2 hour study sessions to get NFL ready

CPatt's contribution early in the year may be from Special Teams and Bubble Screens. At least thats mostly what I expect see. I expect he will flash and disappoint, as most rookies do. He has all the ability in the world, hopefully he works hard enough to realize it in the NFL.

Look, I went into work Friday, and all i heard was how the vikings got "raped" by NE. This coming from all the d-bag bella/brady fanboys. Um, look, I said, the Vikes addressed three needs with THREE 1st round picks. Pretty sure they improved at least a little. Then ya know what I heard in response? "Count the rings! Count the rings bitch!" Count the rings! Um, Ok. I punched another Sgt in his mouth for callin me a bitch, then had to explain to TOP why I did it. He told us both to get the fuck out of his office. Why are people so stupid? By ALL accounts, the Vikes had a great draft. You just can't tell any fanboy/bella/brady cockgobbler, or a Rodgers salad-tosser any different. Maybe Patterson sucks eggs. Maybe he is a success. I even had an E-7 bet me 100 bucks the Vikes miss the play-offs. He instigated the bet, which I gladly accepted. Why all the hate? Damn. Pretty sure Detroit's pick and Miami's pick have bust written all over em. Lets re-examine this debate at the end of the year.....

Does he mean like a bronze bust ?
A little premature, but the potential seems to be there.
The guy will be brought along the same way Percy was, a few plays at a time. Odds are he wont be great this year, few WR are in their first year, but should be very good in year two and better in year three.
I expect the Vikings to step up and surprise once again this year. This Vikings team will have an amazing defense if they can get at least average play from the middle linebacker.
By the end of the season the offense should be less dependent upon the running game.
Then they will be hard to beat.

Just because one or two yutzs use the BR venue to spew for their drivel doesn't mean that all of them are yutz's.

Truth of the matter is, the rest of the world is moving towards that style of "Reporting"/"Moving Information". Just because a few of you on here don't cotton to it doesn't mean the site is crap.

As to the blog. I agree, the guy really didn't do his homework did he. Some things from a site that Caine likes (that has its own yutz's by the way)....

The conversation that sold Leslie Frazier on Cordarrelle Patterson's ability to play in the NFL had little to do with football.

Stewart gave Patterson his first lesson.
"Like I told you, I expect you to be a pro when you get in here," Stewart told Patterson after the draft, in a phone call caught on video by the Vikings' in-house production team and released on the club's website. "So let's handle our (business), and let's be ready to roll."

"Last night, I studied about an hour or two hours," Patterson said, "I woke up this morning and glanced through my playbook again. And I came here and I did it again. And we had a walkthrough (Friday) morning, so everything was good.

"I had to work hard at Tennessee, and I'm going to work harder here. At Tennessee, I wasn't where I needed to be."

"Once you find out that he loves the game and has a passion for it, then you want to find out his capacity for learning," Frazier said. "That's going to be a big part of a receiver's transition to the NFL. The talent was obvious on tape, and then, of course, he has to be the right character guy, as well. Combine the talent, the character, the passion for the game and then learning, it was obvious for us if we had a chance to get him, he'd fit in."

On a side note, just another example of what role the Coaches have in Coaching a player up......Always remember and never forget....Coaches Coach, Players Play. :)

You just proved it yourself Singer, your first thread, that came from BR, was about Patterson being a bust. Yet you just posted a link to the Vikings and an APLUS draft grade??????? How do you get an APLUS, when one of your top 3 picks is projected to be a bust???? LOL I want to read more writtings from that other site you use, the one I said thanks for the link from. That site I liked alot...

Because they are different writers. That's how.

Point is, depending on the nature of the thread, people who general hate B/R tend to talk about what a great article it is when it's a positive one.

I like BR in that it is a venue were fans can get their opinions out there. Good or bad, they can.

On a side note, no one hacks on the Probowl voting done by fans as if they know who deserves to be voted in or not, so why do we hack on some for trying to get their point out there?

Makes no sense.

Besides, its no different than someone spewing forth drivel on here. Its out there for all to see just as the BR stuff is.
