Vikings give Jerome Simpson a raise, including $500K signing bonus | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Jerome Simpson endured a rough first season with the Minnesota Vikings. They gave him a raise anyway.

The one-year contract Simpson signed on Tuesday is worth $2.1 million, an NFL source said.

That's up from a maximum value of $2 million on his one-year deal last season, of which he collected a little more than $1.6 million.

The new deal includes a $500,000 signing bonus and $250,000 workout bonus, with the rest tied up in a $1.35 million base salary. Unlike last season, there are no per-game roster bonuses, despite the fact Simpson, 27, had trouble staying healthy in 2012.

The Vikings thought they had a short-term answer at split end when they signed Simpson last April. But he served a three-game drug suspension, suffered a back injury the week after he returned and finished with only 26 catches for 274 yards and no touchdowns.

Shows how stupid Spielman really is. He had what, 2o something catches and 200 something yards, with 0 TD's? So that warrants a raise?

This guy could have, and would have returned for what he made last year or even less. I highly doubt any team was beating on his door or ringing his agents phone off the hook wanting to sign him. The things that make you go, FUCK!!!!

He is basically getting the same contract as last year. The difference is he was suspended for 3 games and wasn't paid for those games.

He is getting paid what the market values him at. 2nd tier WR, low end of WR pay scale.

Really? Since you must have been there in negotiations, please let me know what you know that we don't. Fact is, Simpson is a talented atletic guy who CAN play well. He was hurt all year, missed a bunch of games and didn't produce. I have no doubt someone else would have picked him up if we didn't.

Today, no, but once the top guys like Jennings, Cruz, Welker, etc. are gone, and the top second-tier guys like Amendola, Gibson, are gone, Simpson will get calls.

Exactly. This is almost exactly the same rate that we got him for last year, maybe even a little less depending on what incentive bonuses there are if any.

This article was clearly written in an attempt to get some people fired up. And it worked for VikesfaninWis, although I don't think he takes much to get fired up these days... :)

Don't like what he did last year. I would rather see him kicked to the curb but oh well

He started catching on late, making some good catches. Unfortunately his production has been handcuffed by Ponders ineptitude (and then Webb's), but he was getting open and making catches later on.

Ha ha, having that many catches and yards is not catching on dude. By the way, I don't eat corn flakes, corn flakes are for pussy's, you probably have them every day huh? He got suspended because he is a idiot, and in 13 games he had horrible numbers injury or not. Wright had better numbers in almost half the games played with 2 TD's. Simpson is a joke. Oh yeah, and Wright was a rookie.

I think our kicker could kick him farther than that.
