View Full Version : All alone at the top?

Fine, tell me I'm being premature with this, but it looks like there's a very good chance that we could be all alone on top of the division after next week.

The Bears play at the Packers, and GB should win that one after their embarrassing home loss to the 49ers. Meanwhile, those same 49ers play host to the Lions, and should handle them in San Fran. So all we have to do is beat the Colts and we'll be 2-0, on top when the others are all 1-1.

They key to beating the Colts, IMO, will be the DL pressure on Luck, which should be relatively easy to get. Their O-line isn't that good and they may still be missing their starting RG who was hurt in the Bears game. The new Center is no Jeff Saturday, trust me on this. If they try to double up on JA like the Jags did, that looks to me like a recipe for a huge game from our DTs in the middle.

It's way early in the season yet and I know it won't last, but it would feel so good to be able to say that the Vikings rule the division outright, at least for now.

I really like our odds this week.

Coming off a win to open the season, we've got momentum.

Our DL should dominate theirs. If they insist on doubling JA and KW again, Robison, Griffen and whoever ends up playing the other DT spot will go wild on them.

Their receivers are nothing special. Yeah, Reggie Wayne is for real, but beyond that, there's no real playmakers. Collie, if he even plays I don't believe is that great. More a product of Manning's system. There is not ONE player on offense who is a legitimate threat to take over a game.

On defense, again, they aren't that good. Some good role players, but no real playmakers to dominate a game with the exception of their Ends. I hope Kalil is ready for his first real challenge. If we can keep them in check, this should be a great game to start a winning streak on.

I agree ... I like our chances for sure this week.

I think that we should be able to beat these guys and a nice 2-0 start to the season would probably get hopes going way to high.

This is exactly the kind of game I expect us to lose because we probably should win it, but I will hold my breath and hope they show that they are ready to at least take a step up.

Very good post! Nice catch right there. I was like "this guy is high!" when I read the first sentence, but you make a very good point. I think this is definitely doable, and if this happens, I will be a very happy man. :)

The team is young. We will have games that we should win that we for some reason end up blowing. Not sure if Indy will be that game but since we are rebuilding i am going to be patient and let things play themselves out.

If we end up 2-0 and leading the division that will be great but I have no expectations that it would be anything except a temporary blip on the NFL radar.

We'll end up tied with the boars, not sure the Packer d can slow down the new MIKE TICE offense and Brandon Marshall will moon the fans in fudge land as they go 0-2.....by about week 4 or 5 the boars defense will start to show their age but for now Urlachers freshly scoped knee will keep them rolling. It would be nice to be alone on top but the Packers 0 and 2 is a pretty close second.

My wife ( best friend) is a Packers fan too so I absolutely know where you are coming from. But rubbing it in at 2-0 might just make it all the worse if things go south again. Payback can be....

I think we have a good shot at winning, but we will definitely need to get pressure on Luck. Some forced turnovers would be nice. As far as the Cheesedick game I want them to go 0-2 quite badly due to the fact that I HATE THEM! 0-2 at home, 0-2 in the conference and 0-1 in the division. That sets them back a bit and I would love to see that.

Unlike some here, I'm hoping GB gets beat by the Bears and are still all alone at the bottom of the division at 0-2.

I don't mind being tied for 1st with the Bears at 2-0 before we beat them.

You might be right my friend. From what I saw of the game the DT got 2 (or 3) sacks, and was in his face all day.

Not sure if our DT's are able to do that but it will be fun to watch.

Something you and I have always agreed on my friend. PUKERs must lose no matter what the consequence.

+1

as much as I wanna see the anal-ysists.. freak out over the Vikes being #1 in the nfcn... i'd much rather watch the deflating gb super hyp... it would be the icing on the cake for the bears to be overhyped and over confident to be jolted by a divisional underdog.. then yes... life would be very very good..

Well GB beat da Bears, so now we need the Niners to beat the Lions and of course we need to take care of business at Indy.

Then we can offically crown ourselves king of the NFC North!!

One down, two to go. I love how the media are trying to resurrect that Schwartz/Harbaugh handshake thing from last year. I'm sure that the coaches have long since moved on, and it just isn't news any more.

I understand the widespread hatred of the Packers on here, and I can't really fault anyone for that. But to me, the Bears have always been the more hated rival over the years. Maybe it's because I lived in the Chicago NW suburbs for a few years and suffered the indignity of being an enemy fan in Bears territory.

But the simple fact is, statistically, a Pack win helps us more. We want all of our rivals to split their series. So let the Bears win the rematch.

Now, on the assumption that the rest of my predictions come true, the real dagger could come the following week when those pesky 49ers come to visit. I'm expecting a fairly big loss, but if we could somehow manage to beat them, we'd be sitting very pretty, especially since they will have already beaten two of our rivals.

Still, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I'm going to focus on Sunday's Colts game and hope that I actually get to watch it here.

Go VIkings! Onward to victory!
