Deion Branch was cut by NE. He's a veteran, worth bringing in 'for a look'. Maybe he can catch a few passes until cheech/chong can be reunited on the field, in week 4.

Either Chase Baker makes the roster or it seems we are going with 8 D-Lineman for the first time in years.

The Vikings apparently decided Christian Ponder (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6433/christian-ponder) didnít need a veteran mentor.

I was kinda thinking it might have helped in that regard, might be able to bring him back as an assistant to the qb coach to do that as well without the cap hit if he isn't picked up by another team......Bills maybe

Unless they have a move cooking for a different backup, thatís a dangerously thin group.

while that may ring true its not really much better at several other roster spots this year so what the hey

The listed 53 man roster barring newly traded for CB and any other waiver moves we have to make.

the coaches at least learned if you have a possible gem in the qb youth movement.. putting him on waviers to move to the PS.. is like waiving bye bye.. i'm glad they kept him instead of sage..

saying this, i liked the thought of sage maybe moving to an assistant qb coach.. this would be a good spot to put a lifetime backup. he's seen many systems, coaches, and packages to be able to really lend a broad view of things with relative connection to modern day football.

for the rest.. i'm sure this weekend and monday will provide some. quick pick ups to sure in depth where there really is none. but as far as starters.. seems we could be a better team this year. glad it's time to see it finally unfold!! off season hype is over, time to prove it.

MBT may not ever pan out as starter material, but he's shown enough upside to try and find out. IMO he wouldn't have lasted on the PS. Sage doesn't bring a lot of upside to our team this year. If Ponder went down Sage wasn't going to carry this team to a playoff run. We just aren't ready as a team for that yet.

Great decision about Sage, even though he was clearly the second best qb on this team. We're rebuilding, we have no need for a veteran backup.

Rebuilding/Youth Movement: ON ;)

That is a lot of young guys! Our QBs are in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd years. Our TEs are 1st, 2nd, and one 4th year players. Etc, etc...

Looks like keeping the extra LBs and WRs was offset by trimming down the DL and OL depth. Better hope we can stay healthy along the lines!!! I mean, well, we're not going to really compete for this division anyway, maybe we should be rooting for another early draft pick so we can perhaps rebuild a bit faster...???

I do like Asiata sticking, kid runs hard and provides multi backup to RB/FB and STs. I'm glad WR Burton is going to get a chance, but, you know, somebody is going to have to go when Jumpin Jerome's suspension ends...

Boy do we love our TEs!! I do like Reisner sticking tho, and Ellison has looked good in his limited action too...and Carlson still hasn't played/practiced much...?

MBT has good size and did play a lil pro-ball with the Sacramento Mountain Lions...maybe, someday...

SKOL VIKINGS!!!

When Simpson comes back, Aromashodu out?
Unless he somehow develops steady hands in those first three games.

First off, we hope none of our other WRs get hurt and answer this question for us!! Doh! Knock On Wood! ;)

But, yeah, Aromashadu or Burton most likely...at least we get another 3 week try-out period! But, it would seem Harvin (duh), Wright (due to draft slot/potential/return depth), and Jenkins (our possession guy/vet who already took a paycut), would be locks barring some sort of series of horrible mistakes...

To be fair, however, you should acknowledge that NO ONE is going to lead us on a Play-off run. We simply don't have the firepower to make that type of impact. So, using that as justification to cut Sage is a bit...empty.

However, since we don't have that firepower, and we desperately need to acquire or develop it (or hope it drops into our laps), keeping Sage as a "mentor" seems rather pointless. It makes more sense to push toward youth and see who comes out on top.

After all, at this point we LITERALLY have nothing to lose.

Agreed.

When you hit rock bottom you may as well throw caution to the wind and make some daring moves. Although they haven't really been doing anything daring with the roster so far. Underwhelming yes but not daring.

Well look on the bright side, with the decision to keep Webb on the roster at least he may be useful as a WR - seeing as he isn't showing the potential to be a QB we as well get some use out of him.

Vikings: Five players signed to practice squad

RB Jordan Todman was hampered by a badly sprained ankle. The team also resigned OL Tyler Holmes , DT Chase Baker and CB Bobby Felder, who were with the team this preseason....former Packers WR Tori Gurley,

Like I said, MBT has upside, Sage does not.

Besides, what is the quality of "mentoring" a 12 start, 6 win QB can provide?

Vikings Blog | A Glance At Vikings Practice Squad (http://blog.vikings.com/2012/09/04/a-glance-at-vikings-practice-squad/)

I for one, like what they did this year. Would have like to see Arcenuex (sp) pan out but like the big kids they kept on the PS. Additionally, Frampton was a unheralded standout on ST's but don't think that is a reason to keep him on the team.

One of the issues I've seen with this team the last 8 or 9 years. They always seem to try to keep a couple of ST'r aces on the roster instead of using those valuable spots for young players to develop as depth behind the older vets.

Again, nice roster, lots of untapped potential. Lets see what the coaches can do with that talent/potential.

On a side note. Sure would love to see K-dubb and Whinny moved this year. Time for their Viking days to end. I'd lump guys like Evans in that mix but he isn't worth anything. His ass just needs to be sent packing.

He comes to a Vikings team that doesn't have such a luxury and was immediately moved to No. 2 on the depth chart behind RCB (http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rapid-reports/post/20048742)Chris Cook (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/567291/chris-cook).

Look for A.J. Jefferson to have immediate impact on Vikings - Arizona Cardinals - CBSSports.com RapidReports (http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rapid-reports/post/20048742)

Already moving up the depth chart. Won't be long and he will beat out Whinny. LOL

JK, this is the type of DB we need to run the press zone I thought they were going to try to run last year. Again, can't say how much I like this signing.

Letís take a look at the Vikings unofficial depth chart heading into the season-openerÖ

Vikings Blog | (Unofficial) Depth Chart: Guideline More Than Rule (http://blog.vikings.com/2012/09/04/unofficial-depth-chart-guideline-more-than-rule/)

Only spot I don't like going into the season is DT. For the life of me I just don't see why they think they can fill the void left by Phat Pat with nothing but 3 and 5 techniques. Someone help me understand that.

Why would he beat out a guy who should be playing the nickel spot. If anything, hopefully AJ shines and Winfield can move to where he belongs.

LOL now you want to run press LOL! That wasn't your tune a couple years ago when I was preaching it. My have things changed.
