Three weeks of training camp served as an amalgam of highlights and miscues for the backup receivers. On the final day of camp, four receivers dropped passes during routine individual work, against no defense, prompting Ponder to yell: "Come on, guys. Come on." In the Vikings' 52 offensive plays during a Harvin-less preseason opener, Kerry Taylor was the only receiver with more than one catch.

Problem is, the Vikings search for capable receivers isn't going any further than the Vikings current roster.

I have not seen much from Jarius Wright. Was his camp that poor?

Greg Childs had a great camp before he blew his tires. He may never be healthy.

The Vikings keep picking up second and third tier receivers and expect greatness. The NFL has had many good number two receivers who would not have put up nice numbers had the number one not been guarded by the best corner. The best teams have had a number one and another receiver that could have been. A bunch of number three guys who can't get separation is not going to cut it.

Jenkins will have to step it up in the first three games and beyond. We can hope that Simpson both performs as a top tier receiver after that and re-signs with the team.
