I really like his ST play, but unfortunately can't say the same about his play at safety.

non-impact player.... griffin would make a better safety on one leg

Griffin can't even play on two legs....

But Abdullah showed us all last season that his good play previously was luck.

Hate to bring up the religion thing, but the whole fasting during Traning Camp thing has to stop if he wants to actually be a good player. He has some skill, but when you're not eating or drinking during the day at camp, your mind and body can't possibly get prepared for an NFL season.

No he just wasnt' that good.... Griff was coming off of two acl surgeries and usually it takes a year to get all the way back... with his physicality, we could have atleast tried him there.... esp. since we have shit back there now.... he wasn't guaranteed, he coulda always been cut before the season...

It usually takes a year to get back from ONE ACL. There has NEVER been a DB come back from two. There have been only a handful of NFL players ever to come back from one on each knee. DB is one of the most demanding positions as far as quickness is concerned. If that ACL isn't 100%, he can't be the same. He wasn't that fast to begin with, this only slows him more.

I don't expect him to come back. It's a shame, but I'm afraid this is essentially a career ender. He'll play some more, but bounce around the league for a few years and then retire.

Griffin definitely is not the answer at safety ... or anything above No. 3 or No. 4 corner.

I love Abdullah on STs as Singer said ... and want to think he can be a good safety, but he is VERY undisciplined ... and safety might be the most important position on the field to make sure you don't leave the spot you are SUPPOSED to be in.

He has shown flashes. I would not hate giving him another chance ... but I would hate if we do NOTHING else at either safety spot.

I contest.. that's why you move him as a physical corner to safety.. most likely strong safety where run support is critical.. he got beat quite a few times last year... but asher all get beat all the time.. and he's small... i think he woulda been a good camp body to see what he can do... regardless, if your not gonna sign cb's and have 2 safety free agents with one on the roster... it doesn't make sense not to see what he can do in that role.. atleast through camp.... there arent' that many bodies to be had in the draft with all the other needs....

We can agree to disagree.

We run a cover 2. We don't have the traditional Strong Safety other schemes run. It's essentially two free safeties. A quick look at our SS's can confirm that.

Darren Sharper
Dwight Smith
Tyrell Johnson
Hussein Abdullah

None of which are the type of guys who play up against the run very well.

perhaps... but that doesn't make my point any less relevant... a camp body who we drafted and developed is better than some fast point guard off the street or undrafted rookie free agent... he wasn't guaranteed so we could have kept him through the offseason to see if he had healed and gotten himself together.

Except there probably is a point where we'll owe him money. He's a vet, he signed an extension not too long ago. The coaches obviously don't think he'll ever be the same player, and don't think he has the skills to plays safety.

It's not just thath e was slow last year, he was missing tackles and taking bad angles. He was one of the worst players on the field. He was a healthy scratch on multiple occasions for a reason last season.

NO, it was only two games... and you are referring to Asher Allen, Tyrel Johnson and Husain Abdullah.... Griff got beat deep a few times and missed some tackles but he was far from the only problem in the secondary... esp. coming off of two separate Acl tears to each leg..

he should be given a chance to move to safety. IMO... his salary won't be guaranteed until the start of the league year... they even considered moving him to safety before they cut him... I think they should have restructured his deal from 4mil down to 1.5 with incentives or something like that... win/win....

like i said, we need bodies.... we have like one safety on the roster with mulitple holes at corner... you can't change that in one draft.. esp. with holes in the o-line, receiver, d-line, LB and corner and safety... virtually the entire team!!...lol

No, Griffin got benched for playing terribly multiple times. And no, it wasn't just a few times, it was frequent.

Between him and Asher, they might just be the two worst starting corners in the league.
