Facts:
1. Metrodome is a crap hole and the Vikings have made it clear that this building is no longer a viable option.
2. Minnesota Legislators are more concerned with staying in office than serving the state.

Result:
1. John Marty and Linda Runbeck work up stadium plan to GIVE the Dome to the Vikings.
2. Vikings would incur all operating costs and annual taxes ($1.67 million a year) but reap the benefits of being the landlords over the NFL Slum stadium and all revenue from event tickets and concessions.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

If you keep poking the bear, eventually it's going to rear it's ugly head and bite. Or in this case, move to L.A.

The Wilf's should agree to the deal. Then turn around and move the team to LA anyway.

But seriously they would feel like fools if Wilf agreed and built a state of the art arena only to reap all the profit from it for the next 20 years.

This has already been done before. I know personally that my local Rep. and others made that very offer to Wilf more than 4 years ago and were rejected then.

While it was good political grandstanding for those 2 and they got a few minutes of press out of it but it has zero impact on the real stadium debate.

There will be a new stadium bill passed by thanksgiving

I understand, just ribbing you a bit. Although I would give myself better odds than the one I have with Defroster.

What makes you think they can finally get something done now?

He was going to let me name the spread but I decided to just take the bet straight up knowing at some point down the road I will get a chance to get even.

Because this is really the time when something should get done. The idea that the state was going to contribute to a new stadium a decade ago when there was still 10 years left on a lease the team signed was ludicrous. Right up to now there was no incentive to sign anything because the state held the cards and there was a lease in place.
Right now we are at the end of the lease and now is the time the issue should be addressed and it will. In the end they will get just enough votes to pass the stadium bill and the team will stay. I do realize the mood at the legislature is as bad as it could be for getting a stadium funded and admit that it is by no means a slam dunk, but at the end of the day I believe no matter how bad of an idea this might be from a financial standpoint they will still vote for it.
