I started this thread to get the people that are hijacking Percy's ROY thread off it and over here (BTW I was sucked into that discussion too)

About the race between Jared and Dumervil:

Vikes total 31

Jared 10.5
% of sacks 34%
Denver 23

Dumervil 10
% of sacks 43%

Average sacks given up per game for remaining schedule
Vikes opponents 2.17

Games remaining 8

Potential team sacks 17.4
Denver opp 2.6

Games remaining 9

Potential team sacks 23

Potential sacks per player based on % of team sacks

Jared 6
with season total of 16.5
Dumervil 10
with season total of 20

Major issue with these #'s is the quality of sackers each teams have faced to this point and beyond.

But in general Dumervil gets one more game to overtake Jarad.

As far as sacks Dumervil beats Jared.
But Jared leads in tackles by 8 and FF by 1.

What really hurts is Denver has some really crappy sack given up teams such as KC, OAK, and WAS left on their schedule.

That post actually serves a dual purpose.

1.) Spelling
2.) I think Jared's gonna take the Defensive Player of the Year

IMO, if he does it won't be on stats alone.
I think the attention Favre and AD bring to Vikings games and the Vikes overall D led by Allen will play a big role.

JA also has one other thing going for him.
He's a great TV?Media spokesman and he's definetly one of the top 3 Defensive leaders on our D....Name recognision goes a long way also, and he by far outshines all oposition at this point and time.....
JA D MVP !

HMMMMM, Wonder who you meant?
Ok so I started to go on a tangent about Allen, It's hard to not get distracted on here, I don't see Dumervil overtaking Allen in sacks, He's having a career year, Yes he had 12 two years ago but averages about 8 a year, Allen averages about 12, and is an all pro every year. Although Denver does have a slightly softer schedule, they still play the Giants, and Indy which give up hardly any (8-5) KC, Oak, And Wash all give up a lot, We play 6 games against teams that are in the top ten in sacks given up, I know we are nitpicking here, I'm having a hard time believing Dumervil will top Allen at year end, he's gotten all his sacks in 4 games, For those who point out Allens 7.5 against GB, Yes he excelled in those games, I think because they were high profile games, which every one we are in from now on will be, (Yeah they all are I know, but we seem to have a lot of naysayers still who don't think we're real) Hopefully Allen will be a little more consistent. Regardless of who's the year end leader, It's probably safe to say he'll top 15.5 his previous best, and at the end we have the Williams, and Edwards, Leber, Henderson to also put heavy pressure, As long as one of them is getting the QB I'll be happy.

Jared is definitely the more heavily marketed player which gives him the edge if its close.
If Denver starts to pick up a few losses, his profile will go down as well.
More than likely they will start to separate from each other over the next 3-4 games.
They will both get trumped by Sharper if he can continue anything close to his current pace with INT's.

I think The White Trash Superstar has a legitimate shot at the single season sack record.

First we got the lions, yeah he only had a sack but I think he has a solid shot to at least double that number next week considering the Lions are 4th in the league in sacks given. Then we're off to Seattle to face another line in complete disarray, they're on their 5th LT... 'nuff said. The way things are looking, Jared will go up against Damion McIntosh, who Seattle signed off the street a few weeks ago, or a slow Sean Locklear returning from injury. I'm fine with either. Then it's off to the Bears, who dominated the Browns but still managed to give up four sacks. I think Orlando Pace has only given up 3 1/2 sacks, (I wish I could find this stat) but I think that number is only low because of the teams he faced (Bengals didn't have Odom). All I hear from Chicago fans is that he's been terrible and Cutler hangs onto the ball too long. Speaking of hanging on to the ball for too long, along comes Kurt Warner who is tied for 7th in hits taken. A lot of opportunity down the road for the mullet man is all I'm saying haha.

not a chance.
Currently stands at 22.5 sacks, Allen has 10.5.
He has 7.5 sacks on the packers alone, the rest of the game he only has 3 sacks.
Allen will need to get another 12 sacks to break the record, something that I'm afraid just will not happen.
