Berrian Makes For Interesting Subplot

http://blog.vikings.com/2009/10/02/berrian-makes-for-interesting-subplot/

Obviously the main story surrounding Monday night’s Vikings-Packers game is QB Brett Favre facing his former team. But there are several other interesting subplots to pay attention to as well.

Bernard Berrian is the subject of one of those storylines. We 1st mentioned this in today’s “Key Matchups” feature, which you can read by clicking here.

Berrian is now in his 2nd year with the Vikings, so he’s getting a taste of the rivalry that exists between the Vikings and Packers. But Berrian also spent the first 4 years of his career with Chicago, who calls the Packers their biggest rival as well. Suffice it to say, Berrian has just as much reason and passion for beating the Bears as anyone.

In 8 career games against Green Bay, Berrian has 16 catches for 306 yards and 1 TD. Those aren’t exactly startling numbers, so perhaps Berrian is due for a big game against the Pack. On Monday night, he’ll get his 1st of 2 regular season chances in 2009 to pick up the production against the Vikings rival.

I don't like BB's odds this game.
Seems his injury has hurt his timing with BF.
Not sure if it is there yet.

Maybe he can get something over the top this game!

I hope I am wrong.

He seemed to finally be moving a little faster against SF last week. If he had held onto the ball better he may have had an ok day.

I pray we don't have to count on BB to win this game; or we are in trouble.

Berrian has Favreitis, same condition as marrdro.
He learned to hate Favre during his Bears days and can't find it in him to catch a pass tossed by him, even if it means winning.

Or hurting his little fingers....BB needs to get off the couch and start earning his keep.
His performance last week was pathetic !
Period.

Yeah ... outside of the drops ... he was much more involved in the offense and seemed to be much crisper. If he can get his hands working he should be in good shape.
Remember, when we signed him from the Bears one of the knocks on him was he got the dropsies every now and then. Hopefully he burned those drops in a game we won anyway and we don't see anymore this season.

I think he was moving better than he had been.
Hopefully he can get over the dropsies.
Berrian is a key to the Vikings success this year.
If he and Harvin start catching more passes and stretch the field more teams well have to take that 8th man out of the bo.
Then the question is the OL.

I just wish he didn't need to wait until the season is 1/4 over before he was ready to play.

I do believe he will begin to become a factor. Last year nobody in the league had more receptions over 40 yards than him and that was playing with Gus and Jackson. He will make his presence known.

I would not go as far as a key to the season. If he fails and gets benched or something, I don't think it will really matter. But, it would be a lot easier if he could actually catch a pass.

Can anyone see BB dropping the pass to win us the division/playoff game/whatever game or do you see him making the play?

Dropping the pass.

However, I don't see us going to him in that situation... which is a lot of money to pay someone you're not going to use in those situations.

1st and 2nd round draft picks for Calvin Johnson.

Favre will never have a go to guy, he throws the ball to he sees fit.

I hear ya but I do think he is a key element to stretch the field because he has to be accounted for.
Whether his numbers or good or not really won't tell the whole story regarding the overall success of the team.
